Hi Jerry,

Thank you for helping and following.
It doesn't mean it is malfunctioning right, but it doesn't say that could be the reason of why it's not downgradable now ?

Btw did the technician told you that because of this change the NOR flashing doesn't work in the diagnostic menu ? That's probably because the
NOR flashing doesn't work that it's not possible to downgrade the jetBook from this V0.35m upgrade ...

As you said your jetBook has the same "improvement" than mine, maybe that your NOR flash procedure in the diag menu doesn't work either.
(I expect that you could do this test and tell the result with the Ectaco policy, it's a embedded function of the jetBook after all. No big deal ! )

I don't know what that means "ADE compatibility". I just bought the jetBook to learn English with subtitles coming from movies casted in pdf files, that's all, I don't use it for anything else,
so all the stuff about DRM, B&N or ADE compatibility weren't even popped in my mind, I just need to read these pdf files, I was able to do so easily before the upgrade and now it's like a curse to use my jetBook.

Well, in other case, if some people reading this could make a try IF they already have the V0.35m installed with this NOR procedure (the "How to" detailled very nicely by Ken) it would help great.
I don't recommend to anyone to upgrade to V0.35m if their jetBook is working fine, even to help, really.

Hey,

Yea i really have no idea what changed to be honest, just making guesses. That response was this this question that i posed (just so you get an idea of context)

"In the diagnostics screen, #14 which is simple memory check. #3which is NAND Flash checksum the customer ran a test. The test result is “NAND Flash md5sum chec” mtd3 OK but mtd4 has an “X”.

What does this mean? "

Hope this helps!

OK, it looks like you right about the context: it is a robot explanation but it says what you said to me.
Maybe that when you have a prompt why this computer you could ask this:

"In the diagnostic screen,#13 wich is Reflash NOR.#1 This will upgrade NOR flash, Are you sure? -> Reflashing NOR Flash ... -> Necessary file(s) are missing, Press Escape to quit (is the correct answer when all necessary file(s) are present on the SD card ?) Or it is one of the new improvement of the latest firmware evolutions ?"

In fact, Ken leads me to the procedure to restablish the firmware I had and the NOR flashing thing shouldn't give me such a message. That's why I can't go back to my previous updade, this was the last step before installing the V0.33g on the V0.35m ...

Thanks again, have a nice day!

You don't necessarily or normally need to reflash the NOR to flash to a different firmware.
The firmware includes it's own boot loading routine and should be able to do the update on
it's own. That said, some of the programming tricks that can be used to enforce a specific
requirement to run updates in a specific order can be implemented through the NOR.
(This is why doing the an update two times in a row can sometimes accomplish the task,
when the first attempt fails.)

Reflashing the NOR is also a way to get matching code for an update, but is most often
done to restore the memory to an initialized/uncorrupted state.

You can go ahead with firmware update/downgrade attempts.

Luck;
Ken

I tried the two times trick with the NOR flashing and for an "unknown" reason it passes and the test was OK.
So I tried to downgrade after reseted the system .. and the jB don't pass the jetBook logo now, I think that I have
the same problem than hiaig here :
http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1210431#post1210431
With the difference that I'm stuck in the V0.35m.

As I have another way to read my files, I don't try to upgrade/downgrade my jB anymore, something's going wrong with it so I stop here, and the jB is out of guarantee, so no saving
return for exchange to Ectaco (and I live in Europe).

The help I received from you, jorlando and Jerry put the jB out of this problem, thanks to you,
it was really really great help.

Regards,
Chris
