Hi,
I just got my Jetbook Color. How do I launch the internet browser? I expected an Opera browser as shown on the enlarged image at https://www.ectaco.com/jetBook_Color/. Also, how do I update my device on March 1st as advised on the box sticker? First impressions are good but no user manual in English and software is a bit beta-ish.
Regards,
Brian

Hi Brianbarian
I got mine yesterday - same firmware. In mobileread forum heard the browser is yet to be implemented. Have you tried text search; I don't seem to be able to do it - open a pdf file, menu, text search, and key in a string and press Find. Does it locate a string? It just refreshes the same page for me.
Thanks

Hello,
I got mine yesterday and I'm very disappointed.
It seems to be a really good hardware but the current firmware is far beyond my expectation.
As already mentioned: WLAN and Browser do not exist but are part of the product description.
Much worse for me:
1. We have a perfect stylus integrated but no software supporting it.
I expected a functionality to add hand written comments to my PDFs and also a simple notebook app.
The intention to purchase the reader was my job. Electronics engineer. I have to carry around lot of specs and datasheets
and make notices to them and also make notes during conferences.
Other readers with Pen input (like Sony) have these features.
2. Screen blanking:
when the screen is updated I nearly always see shadows of the previous page. It's then sometimes hard to read small fonts.
I know that this quick clearing makes page changes faster and is a good idea in most situations but it it's used an extra shortcut for a full redrawing is a must.
3. Page Margins:
On PDF reading a zoom functionality which removes page margins has to be present without saying for such a reader.
4. Percentage Zoom:
when zooming into a part of a page, a page change with same zoom settings should be possible.
5. Screen Rotation:
The reader does not support landscape operation at all.
I hope most of the functionality will follow but can someone from ECTACO confirm that at least hand written comments and note or drawing app will be implemented in the next firmware release? Otherwise I will return my reader immediately.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hey Daniel,
Thanks for the message. I just checked the project log (basically a list of things being worked on as we speak). The things you mentioned were on the list and will absolutely be modified in the upcoming updates. The March 1st update will fix the most pertinent issues and the April 1st will have the device much near 100% working capacity.
We are listing to every last little piece of feedback from customers and are tacking everything into consideration. Like our last devices (JB-5 and JBL) we will continue to make firmware updates for the life of the unit until as many people are satisfied as possible.
I appreciate your feedback and patience while we iron things out!

Hi Jerry,
thanks for your quick answer.
If that all becomes true I will support the development by deeply testing the releases and giving you reply.

Hi Daniel,
That would be great, i remember we had a bunch of testers for older JB models. After we take care of the pending 'bugs' and issues we will then move on to other improvements and additions via customer recommendations.
Thanks again for your patience.

Hi all. I've had my jetBook Color a few weeks now and I've obviously noticed the current deficiencies in the software and a few things that seem like actual bugs. Would it make sense to wait until after the 1st March and 1st April updates to report any potential bugs, or should I report them now in case they haven't been addressed already?

Hello Andrew,
from my view as another end user it's a good Idea to have them posted public.
It makes it possible for other users to review them in the current firmware and retest these bugs in the new firmware quickly.
The quality of the feedback of users which have tested the bugs before will have a higher quality since they know what was
the wrong behaviour.

I think I agree - I just wondered what Ectaco thought.
I haven't got my jetBook Color with me at the moment but when I have I'll post a couple of the things I've found (including the dodgy text search).

Hey Andrew,
Thanks for the message and welcome to the forums! It would never hurt to post what you find in my opinion. Since the March 1st update is only a week away i think maybe it would be a better idea to wait until then. You will have lest things to post which will save you time in the long run.
We are always very receptive to anything you find or feedback you have so feel free to let us know what you think!

That's a good compromise - I'll wait until I've got my hands on the March 1st update then see where we are with existing bugs and new functionality (which I'm eagerly awaiting...)

Hi Jerry,
Can you confirm that coming update on March 1 will be available on http://jetbook.net/update? Or it will be on ectaco.com?
Thank you.
