I am unable to figure out a way to circumvent ADE to read/download/upload to JBL any epub docs, and as it stands, epub docs no longer work on my JBL. Would it be useful or possible, even, for me to download the Adobe Reader for Mobile Devices and put that on my JBL?
I do remember that Jerry warned there was no going back if we upgraded to 16b; is that still valid? Under the old firmware I could read epub.
Thanks.

Get yourself an SD Card and a USB to SD reader/writer for your PC.
Then put a Books and a Pictures folder on the root of the SD Card.
Then put a "Test" folder on the SD Card.
Now put some of your non-DRM .epub files in the "Test" folder.
Put the SD Card in the JBL.
When the SD card is shown in your eBooks menu it should have a test
folder. Inside that folder there should be your .epub ebooks listed.
Select one and read it.
Luck;
Ken
PS; I have gone back to 15b and then back to 16b again with no
problems.

Ken: You are my new hero. I happen to have an SD card and reader. After work tonight, I will implement your suggestions and see if it works.
And thanks for the info on being able to return to .15. I might do that and buy the other format stuff in paper.
As an aside, I heard from Adobe that there is an JBL update .16e out that fixes Adobe DRM issues. I have been unable to find this firmware update, but have requested a link from Ectaco.

Hmm... Adobe saying that makes me nervous, for the most part I doubt
I would like anything Adobe would consider "fixes (to) Adobe DRM issues".
Like most updates "their ready when they are ready".

Per an email I had waiting for me after work this morning:
"Yes, new version is already available.
We are planning to upload it to our websites by the end of the week."
Sounds as though 16e is soon to be available.

Any changes from 16b?

A quick look at the JBL 0.16e is looking very good. It even found my last page, but I did have to select the book from my recent reading list. The quotes are as they should be now (not question marks) in .ebup., at least for this one that I recently converted with Calibre. (The question marks are still there in the older Calibre conversions, I checked.) Overall, it looks like you can get a really nice looking .epub with this new firmware and the current version of Calibre.
The initial loading seems a little slower, but that may be just me. It took about 12sec to build the initial TOC, also. The spacing and paragraphs look a little better, to me, as well. (The additional attention to the formatting may be slowing the initial load some.) Worth the wait, IMHO.
Luck,
Ken
