Took 10 minutes to update. It lost my place on epub books, but once I opened a book, it had no problem keeping my place.

In epub:
Side (1-9) buttons no longer act as shortcuts for the menu. In particular, I can no longer set a bookmark with the '3' button, instead needing to go to the menu key and then choose 3. I also can't go to the bookmarks with the '2' key.

Font size key cycles through the fonts, rather than giving you the menu. I like the menu better, but this is workable.

Table of Contents works well. No dictionary in epub.

Ereader: Works pretty much as before. No changes that I noticed.

pdf: Table of contents exists. The pdf's that I have available don't have any so could not test them out but will do so shortly. Font size cycles rather than give a menu. Reflow turns on and off, but again, I can't tell how well it works due to the pdf's I currently have on the machine. I will get some others on and test that as well.

EDIT: I found another textbo

Are they supposed to work? It prompted me for my unlock name and number but, I was unable to open it, despite multiple tries. It opened on my computer, but not on the JBL.

I tried checking my account and re-downloading to the same results.

Maybe I am missing something. If I copy it without using ADE, it seems to be a 50/50 as to whether or not it opens.

Still can't figure out what is going on with the BN Epub. I tried with three different books and still can't get it to open. I have tried my name with and without my middle initial (I authorize with fictionwise without) with caps, small letters, and initial letter capped only and even with my email address.
Hey,

Thanks for the feedback, i am making notes every time someone suggests something new!
Thanks. I read a lot of PDFs on the JBL, so here you have some suggestions:

- The scroll in smalls steps (pressing and holding the arrow keys) has disappeared in version 16b (but it was present in version 16). It would be nice if you put it back (same with the grid zoom).

- Having a free zoom ratio (say 215% or whatever) would help to adjust exactly a pdf document width to the width of two screens width (or three screens-width or whatever is needed in order to make the fonts big enough).

- In order to read most pdf articles, you have to scroll left and right constantly. This cannot be avoided due to the size of the screen. However, it would help if button 0 was assigned to right-scroll and button 9 to left scroll. Buttons 0 to 9 are softer to press whereas the arrow keys are too hard (I get thumb-pain after reading a long pdf article ).

- Reflow i

If anyone else has been running across this issue, a little guidance would be appreciated rather than reinventing the proverbial wheel. I will continue as I have time; if I figure it out, I'll post it here.

Last, have found on some books that as I'm reading along text going from one page to the next doesn't make sense. If I opt to a smaller font then the missing sentences are there, as though one should have had to scroll down as one does with some of the PDF stuff. Am I explaining this well enough? It's been three different books so far, and none of them are the cheaply done ones, either. The last one I noticed is a Bantam Books publication.

I still love my JBL; plan on taking it on vacation with me at the end of the month.
The Name & CC unlocking is for the B&N epub or the Secure eReader pdb
formated ebooks. The issue that has been a problem for most with the
B&N epub unlocking is that both the name and the CC number must be
entered with NO spaces.

The issue with missing words at the page turn, was a problem that
appeared with .pdb files, for awhile, and was corrected with a firmware
update. If it has returned with the latest update (0.16b) then I haven't
noticed it. Check again and let us know.

There would be no such thing as "Adobe ADE books (non-DRM)", if you
mean non-DRM .epub files that you are letting ADE manage for you,
that might be the problem. You could try adding the book without using
ADE.

Luck;
Ken

16b update

B&N books do not ask for any information; clicking on one of their formats just boots me to the menu. It seems that all Adobe books now go to the ADE file rather than having the .epub options(?) I'll play with it some more, see if I can get it to individualize. (Windows 7 is such an obstreperous O/S).

The missing words at page turn is definitely back, if it was an issue before, and the book to which I refer is PDB format.

Thanks to you all who are on top of this update. It is going to be fabulous when it all comes together.

Inside that folder there should be your .epub ebooks listed.
Select one and read it.

Luck;
Ken

PS; I have gone back to 15b and then back to 16b again with no
problems.

16b update

Ken: You are my new hero. I happen to have an SD card and reader. After work tonight, I will implement your suggestions and see if it works.

And thanks for the info on being able to return to .15. I might do that and buy the other format stuff in paper.

As an aside, I heard from Adobe that there is an JBL update .16e out that fixes Adobe DRM issues. I have been unable to find this firmware update, but have requested a link from Ectaco.

Quick check of JBL 0.16e Looking very good

A quick look at the JBL 0.16e is looking very good. It even found my last page, but I did have to select the book from my recent reading list. The quotes are as they should be now (not question marks) in .ebup., at least for this one that I recently converted with Calibre. (The question marks are still there in the older Calibre conversions, I checked.) Overall, it looks like you can get a really nice looking .epub with this new firmware and the current version of Calibre.

The initial loading seems a little slower, but that may be just me. It took about 12sec to build the initial TOC, also. The spacing and paragraphs look a little better, to me, as well. (The additional attention to the formatting may be slowing the initial load some.) Worth the wait, IMHO.

Luck,
Ken
