I do have a JetBook Color and I have bought some ePubs from O'Reilly (oreilly.com). They are DRM free and are offered in multiple formats (epub, mobi, pdf).

If I try to open an original *DRM free* O'Reilly epub it wants to activate my device. I have no intention to do so (calibre generated epubs work fine) but I did just to be sure. Anyway, after I did activate it it still says: "Can't read file ...".

What's going on? At first I don't need to "Digital Editions activate" my device for completely DRM free ebooks. And secondly even if I do so they still can't be opened.

Please fix the firmware so that it allows standard conform DRM-free epubs (like the ones from oreilly.com - even the free ones doesn't work).

Hi,

Does the site give you any terms about sharing the book? I am wondering because you can send it to our tech support to find out if it is an issue with just your device.

I have a few ePubs on my device and they work just fine.

Try this:
1)First, make sure it is not a problem localized to that site. Try and download an ePub from Gutenberg.org. Here is Alice in Wonderland. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/11

2) If that book does not work, you may need to re-download the firmware on your device.

3) If the book works, then the eBook you download may be corrupt, or may have some other weird DRM protection on it that is not through adobe. You will need to contact the book vendor in that case.

Hey Jerry,

I did find the problem.

Your device doesn't process epubs which are named 'Something.ePub'. The capital P leads to the the point that the JetBook Color isn't able to open the file.

Not sure if it is really a bug (don't know if the the epub 2.0 specification forbids it) but in focus of a better compatibility you should fix that behaviour.

Greetings and thanks
JB

Hi,

Glad to hear its fixed. I will pass your resolution to the tech support just in case someone else is experiencing a similar problem.
