Which model English/French translator?

I live here in France and have done so for just over 6 years. Learning the language has been a steep learning curve and I have been helped with an electronic translator, a Lexibook, but I am not really happy with it.

I am thinking about getting an Ectaco, but I don't know which model would suit best? The 500 looks good, the 900 better, but I wonder if it would be worth me paying so much extra?

Any idea would be greatfully recieved, thank you.

Edit : - I had forgot to say that I need a model that covers the French conjugation too. Not one of my favorite subjects, but a very important one!

Thanks for the question! The basic difference between the 500 and the 900 is rally how much French do you know?

The 500 model is really a dictionary and phrasebook. You can type in a word and get a translation in either direction. it can even speak the word for you. Also you can look up a phrase, their are 14,000 phrases all broken down into categories. You would want to look at this model. https://www.ectaco.com/ectaco-partner-ef500/

The 900 series is really a complete communication and learning device. It has a dictionary as well as full sentence translation, speech recognition using a phrase database and a special program called Language Teacher. This program teaches language step by step and uses speech recognition. You say something and it will let you know how good your pronunciation is. Well Jerry! I am VERY impressed at your service Ordered my EF900 delux on the special offer from you in the States on Manday and it arrived this afternoon in France!

Jerry, my EF900 arrived sone time ago now, about a month, and with the special offer you gave when I ordered it came with a box full of goodies including a very impressive looking B3 iwth an English/Spanish programme installed.

At least I assume that it should be an English/Spanish programme? Because as yet I have not been able to get it to work. I have been in touch with your tech guys and after trying several different things including downloading and reloading the programme to the SD card it is still inoperative. One of you guys on your tech desk said that it sounded like a problem with the SD card and he would get another in the post. That was a couple of weeks ago and because of the easter break I have let it ride and waited. But I still have not recieved another card to try to sort the problem?

Also, at the moment if I put a new pair of AAA batteries in and try it, then switch he unit off when it fail and then go back a day or so later the batteries are flat. So it appears that the unit is not switching off when I press the off button and even if I didn't switch it off I was under the impression that the unit switched itself off after a predetermined time. As the unit won't go beyond the attempt to show me the demo mode I have no way of looking at any power steeings?

The 900 is a VERY impressive tool and I am very pleased with it. If you can see your way to getting the French conjugation onto it then it would be, in my opinion, the most complete small French learning tool on the market! Our French teacher here in Carcassonne is very impressed with it too!
