Just downloaded it. Only a Firmware folder unpacked.

Am loading it now.

Is this supposed to have Adobe DRM?

I installed it and it is looking good so far.

The PDF reflow is nice. And being able to switch it off and on is very
helpful for PDFs with embedded images.

Would one of your "bugs" be the epub settings for "Background Music"?

I can't really tell if the eReader DRM support is still there. The DRMed
PDB files I had on my SD all open without asking for unlocking data,
just like they did before the update. Maybe I'll have to buy another
ebook to test that out, but it looks like both DRM scams are supported.

Luck;
Ken

DJ; I had all three folders with mine.

Took 10 minutes to update. It lost my place on epub books, but once I opened a book, it had no problem keeping my place.

In epub:
Side (1-9) buttons no longer act as shortcuts for the menu. In particular, I can no longer set a bookmark with the '3' button, instead needing to go to the menu key and then choose 3. I also can't go to the bookmarks with the '2' key.

Font size key cycles through the fonts, rather than giving you the menu. I like the menu better, but this is workable.

Table of Contents works well. No dictionary in epub.

Ereader: Works pretty much as before. No changes that I noticed.

pdf: Table of contents exists. The pdf's that I have available don't have any so could not test them out but will do so shortly. Font size cycles rather than give a menu. Reflow turns on and off, but again, I can't tell how well it works due to the pdf's I currently have on the machine. I will get some others on and test that as well.

EDIT: I found another textbo

Just bought one, so I will test that out shortly...

Oops! I do too... Missed them in the folder that I unpacked to. Will reinstall and try again...

Thanks.

Managed to authorize ADE. Was able to download and open both pdf and epub from the library.

Was able to copy the epub from the Digital Editions folder to the SD card and open it. Next step will be sideloading directly to the SD card without using ADE to transfer and see if it works...

Was able to copy an authorized book to the SD card and still use it. Not sure if it will work if I just copy a book over to the SD card. I had one file that worked, and one file that didn't and I am not sure if one or the other was not encrypted.

A fictionwise eReader file authorized fine, using the codes that I previously had stored.

I had trouble with a BN epub. Are they supposed to work? It prompted me for my unlock name and number but, I was unable to open it, despite multiple tries. It opened on my computer, but not on the JBL.

I tried checking my account and re-downloading to the same results.

Maybe I am missing something. Despite earlier experience where all caps was fine, I tried using the proper case for the name, after all upper case failed. I know the credit card number is right because I re-entered it on to BN and re-downloaded.

OK... It seems that if I copy a book over via ADE, I can then copy it over to the SD card and have it open. If I copy it without using ADE, it seems to be a 50/50 as to whether or not it opens.

Still can't figure out what is going on with the BN Epub. I tried with three different books and still can't get it to open. I have tried my name with and without my middle initial (I authorize with fictionwise without) with caps, small letters, and initial letter capped only and even with my email address. I know the Credit Card info is correct, so I don't know why it isn't opening.

I can work around the problem, but it is still an annoyance.

Does Fictionwise still show the proper unlock codes for each ebook in
the books listing on your download page? It used to show the exact
case for the name part and the last four for the CC.
It is per book, so if there were to be some slight difference, checking
how it needs to be there might help.

Luck;
Ken

Ooops, that was B&N that was the problem, wasn't it.
Maybe they have a similar page.

Not that I could find. If nobody else is having problems I will email them for help.

Hey All,

Thanks for the input. It seems everything is functioning Ok besides the following.

1) [In B&N .ePub book]. Menu > Settings > Background music. Not available for JBL.
2) [B&N epub, ADE epub, ADE pdf. regular pdf]: Cant select side buttons unless you press the menu key first.
3) [B&N epub, ADE epub] No dictionary.
4) [B&N ePub, ADE ePub, EDE pdf]: font zoom button zooms automatically and deos not prompt a zoom menu.

FYI some of these things wont be seen as "bugs" by out development team and rather suggestions. I would only think #1 would definitely be fixed and also maybe #2.

Please let me know if i have everything covered so i can send it in a report.

Right, none of those are "bugs" in the programing.

They aren't where there is a malfunction causing a problem, just where,
while functioning properly, it may not be as wanted by,
a few/some/many/all, whatever.

If this turns out to be firmware where there are no real bugs and all

If this turns out to be firmware where there are no real bugs and all the
code functions as expected, smoothly without problems, then you will
have a good platform to make changes to match the preferences that
offer added value to your customer base.

Ken

I'm not sure if none of them are bugs, but none of them are bugs that would be a serious problem. There are things that I miss, but it would be perfectly acceptable as is.

Hey Guys,

As always thanks for the input. The product manager determined #1 is a bug. Also , as someone pointed out in JB-5 v0.35k, when you got into an epub TOC and press the #8 it does not work.

Those things will be fixed, the others might be resolved but its not definite.

Thanks again for the feedback!

The #8 in epub TOC DOES work with the latest version of JBL firmware. I must say I'm really liking this upgrade. The epub TOC in particular is great. I can now easily read my Reason magazines on the JBL. The pdf reflow is nice as well.

The only "bug" I found was the background music menu option. I suspected this was something inadvertently ported over from the jetBook version. I too would welcome a return to the zoom menu rather than cycling through zoom levels.

A review of the DRM features is difficult for me to do as the first thing I do upon purchasing an ebook is to remove the DRM virus.

I must say this is a great upgrade, we
