I just received an email from B&N saying that all their ebooks are now in the EPUB DRM format. As far as I know, there was no advance warning of the change from PDB to EPUB.

Barnes and Nobel company provides PDB books on other popular web-sites: www.ereader.com and www.fictionwise.com

Not that anyone would ever do so, but I have heard of programs using python2.6 and pycryto that can remove the DRM for use.

I just go ahead and purchase ePub ebooks from sites providing Adobe Digital Editions and then run through a simple procedure to remove the DRM so I can read the ebooks on my regular JetBook which currently has no DRM support.

I got tired of waiting for the official DRM release which I hope will not be obsolete by the time they get it out for the Jetbook.

I hope you understand our frustrations as this has been promised for quite a while now.

It is frustrating. I purchased the JB-lite with the understanding that it read epub. To find out that epub and secure epub are two different things.

My favorite place to shop is Barnes and Noble. They have the latest books at good prices. Now that I can not read books from B&N I have stopped buying all together.

Yes there are other places to shop. But many of the books I want are not available from fictionwise and the others.

Ectaco has been promising us the upgrade to secure epub for a long time. Had I known that they were lying about having it "available very soon" I believe I would have returned my jb-lite and gotten a nook directly from B&N.

But being disabled and on a small fixed income, spending hundreds on a new reader is just not possible. So here I sit stuck thanks to Ectaco. Using a machine that does not do what I need and unable to return it because I've had it too long.

It is very frustrating that Ectaco has been promising the upgrade for a long time but we are still waiting, waiting, waiting! I bought my Jetbook Lite so that I could get books from Barnes and Noble and then they made the switch to EPUB DRM two or three weeks after my ereader arrived. Fortunately, someone told me about Fictionwise and they had the Louis L'Amour novels I wanted and they were 40% off during their anniversary sale. It was great while it lasted. ECTACO, WE WANT THE UPGRADE YOU PROMISED!

You are aware that DRM for B&N epub as well as ADE epub/pdf can be removed after you make your purchase and download to your PC. Very easy process.

Once the DRM is removed from the ebook you can read it on your jetbook, jetBook-Lite, etc, etc, etc.

This will also ensure that you can re-read your books in the distant future and not have to worry about the DRM process being changed on you by the time your e-reader craps out.

I have heard that the DRM can be removed but the process I read about did not appear to be easy for an amateur. Any suggestions?

I just read that Barnes Noble dropped its eBook reader with WiFi to $149. Is the beginning of the end for the Jetbook and Jetbook Lite? In order to stay in the game, Ectaco needs to fix their hardware and firmware problems and drop the price to under $100, more like $79. I think they know this so I got a feeling that there will be no more firmware updates and the product will be discontinued soon.

Not interested in buying books from ereader.com or fictionwise, their selection and prices both stink. Today I bought a Nook for $149 so I can read all the purchased books and future purchased books from B&N. I will use my JBL for public domain and drm-free ebooks.
I agree the JBL will have to beef up its features and drop the price in this price war. Kindle is now $189 so price is becoming a big factor.
Hopefully the JBL will be around for a long time. I love mine, and think it is great. With latest firmware update it is problem free. A $79 JBL would still have a market, but no longer at $149 when up against the Nook and Kindle.

I really like my JBL (and never had any of the problems that some people have experienced), but thinking of taking a look at the new nook wifi. From what I've read it can use the DRM PDB books from eReader and Fictionwise (which is what most of my ebook library consists of) as well as the ePub format that B&N now uses.

Well.. I won't be buying a nook anytime soon - took a look at them and found that they aren't as sophisticated as the JetBooks are when it comes to organizing your books into seperate folders. Apparently you just get a mass list of the books that you have loaded, with no way to sort them.
