Dear Krish,

ECTACO jetBook Lite currently supports the eReader DRM for PDB files which means that you can read books in any “secure ereader” format from Fictionwise.com or eReader.com as well as any PDB files from Barnes and Noble.

Also supported are the following unprotected ebook formats:
ePub, Mobi, PRC, RTF, .txt, .pdf, .fb2.

You may find more information on the product online at

so basically any new book release will not be available to you...B&N has now made all of their books download into protected epub files soooo, they WILL NOT WORK!!! ereader.com and fictionwise.com do not have current releases nor ALOT of old releases by VERY well known authors...BIG waste of $$$ buying this ereader

To whom it may concern,

It seems that the majority of ebooks from Barnes and Noble are now only available as DRM ePub format, and there is no option available to choose PDB instead when downloading from B&N. As such, I'd like to know if there will be an effort to make an update (firmware or otherwise) that will allow the JBL to support the DRM ePub? If so, is there a planned target date for the release, and how will users receive the update for the JBL? I thank you in advance for your response to this post.

I guess my question on this is Adobe and BN have signed an agreement recently to develop a new universal protected DRM ePub format. According to the Adobe website it should be included in the next major release of ADE. The thing I guess I am wondering is what is the plan for supporting these devices. How quickly do updates come and is there any known game plan. It seems I would be wicked happy to just have an ereader that essentially runs ADE because all the books I really want to read are either on KOBO and supported by most devices or on Barnes and Noble and best I can tell only supported on the Nook.

I gotta say I think I am leaning towards the Aluratek because they run ADE, I have yet to ascertain their plan to further update their ADE and keep it current. I had been looking at the KOBO due out June 18 but the Ectaco and Aluratek ereaders offer more of the features I would like. The question just seems to come down to which will be kept most up to date.

Current version of Jetbook-Lite supports only DRM PDB files.
ECTACO is working on the new version and will provide updates shortly.
