I really find the jetbook forums and Ectaco themselves very confusing.
I am a new owner of a Jetbook which came loaded with firmware detailed as v0.34c Patch v15.
Answers on the Forum say this is not in use.
Is it impossible for a manufacturer to give a plain simple answer to what firmware their products should be running, and then give some reasonable prediction as to when the upgrade to DRM will be available. I'm really beginning to wish I had spent the money on a Sony reader!

Yeah, forums can be a mixed bag of information, making you dig for what you're looking for.

You should be able to find the latest firmware here, and instructions on how to update it.

Well thanks for your answer but that just perfectly illustrates my point, the firmware download at the official Ectaco link you have given me is an older version than my jetbook was delivered with?

It just doesn't make sense when Ectaco say on this forum that the 0.34c version is not in use!

If you like flashing black for every page turn then the Sony was the way to go.

I have found no difference between firmware 33g and 34c. The next update to firmware for the JB should include DRM capability from Barnes & Noble.

If you are used to downloading torrents, there are multiple sites where you can get books for free while you are waiting for access to B&N.

I bought two ebooks from the Barnes and Noble web site. I put in my credit card number and even tried my B&N password but the books won't open. My firmware version says: V0.15 update 15 so I'm guessing my Ectaco Jetbook Lite has the latest firmware installed? Could really use some help opening these DRM ebooks.
Thanks!

What format were the books in? Were they pdb? or epub? I don't think drm epub files work with the JBL ..

I finally figured it out. They were pdb files, I thought I just needed to put in my credit card number and didn't realize my name had to go in first. It is working fine now.
thanks!

It's the little things that sometimes causes problems. I bought two new books off Fictionwise today, and they wouldn't open with my unlock code. I had just bought two books off them the night before and had no problems with those. I finally figured out that when I bought the books today, that my middle initial wasn't included in my name. Worked fine after that. Just need to remember to make sure my name is right when I next buy more books from them.

Why are you having to put unlock codes in again? firmware .15 is supposed to take care of that for the JBL. At least I've only had to put the info in once.

It would have - if my "name" had been the same as what I used with the first books. The software remembers your codes - but both the name and the CC# need to be the same each time. Apparently Fictionwise doesn't save CC data from previous purchaces like the eReader site does. And I didn't check today before buying that my name was what I used before.

** Sorry KMRowley, I must have been posting the same time you were **

He's having to do this because he has more than one unlock code. Like he said, one time he used his middle name and another time not. For the DRM every unique combination of name / credit card is a unique unlock info - even if only one letter is different.

Once he has entered a particular name/number combination, the JBL "remembers" it for future books with that particular code.

When you go to download your books from your bookshelf, right above the link labeled "Download Ebook", there is a drop down box where you can select which previously used unlock combo you want to use to encrypt the book.

I've run into the same problem with the middle initial thing. I just make sure I select the combination without the MI before I download so I don't have to remember which to use.

None of Jetbook Firmware versions support DRM.

We were planning to release updates in the beginning of 2010 but due to technical problems release was rescheduled for March.

Thanks - I found that last night when I was buying some books. I haven't used the Fictionwise site in years - think last time was just before they started the mircopay thing. Finding a lot of good books to buy.
