Dear Customer

You can use prerecorded phrases only. Open Phrase book, chose topic, sub topic, press microphone, and you are ready to go.

I also just received my iTravel this week and I'm a little disappointed in it. The advertised "our brand-new 2-way Language Communicator", makes it sound like you can speak into the iTavel and it will translate into the second language (Spanish) and then the person that you are talking with can speak into it (Spanish) and the iTravel will translate it to english.

This is not the case, which to me, is misleading. It has voice activated phrases that translate to spanish or W.H.Y, but there is no way to carry on a 2 way conversation. I can activate a phase, but what is the person I'm talking to saying back to me.... I have no idea. Unless I miss something.

I"m with you I too thought I had a communication tool but while the person to whom you are speaking can understand, there is only deer in the headlights from this side. I am told the only way for two way is if they type in a response ... as the keyboard is something less than perfect I am concerned about someone being motivated to assist.

You may only translate verbally preloaded phrases. If You need to translate something different, You will have to use Text Translation feature where You need actually to type the phrase or word.

How well does it pick up on accents?

Hi,

Thanks for the question! For the speech recognition the device basically takes your audio clip and matches it up to the phrase that fits best. Most of the time this match is done based on just one word. So if the preloaded phrase is "where is the bathroom" and you say "big blue clouds bathroom" it will still identify as "where is the bathroom".

All of the pre-programmed phrases are separated by category which makes it easier for the device to select what you are trying to say.

Hope this helps!
