Hello,

I have an EB800, but it is missing the Text Translation option in the Dictionaries section. I have tried reloading the firmware but to no avail. The option is just not there, and this is a major feature of the device that I need to use. What can I do to resolve this?

I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Dear Cleo,

ECTACO Partner EB800 - English <-> Bulgarian Talking Electronic Dictionary and Audio PhraseBook does not have any text translation function, it can only provide instant reverse translation of individual words and phrases.
You may review the product description online at
https://www.ectaco.com/products/ECTACO-Partner-EB800
Unfortunately, we haven't got any English <-> Bulgarian electronic full text translator and there is no such product available on the market yet.

I cannot believe that a $400 unit does not offer the very thing that make these translators of any real functional use abroad, and that is the FULL TEXT translation option! This is on all the other units. I have the Russian-its on there, the Spanish-its on there, surely this is standard! After all it is only a software program written on the MMC card itself and found within the TEXTRAN folder on the card, its literally just a few files between 1.4 and 4mb depending on the language, nothing. --continued.

Surely you are not telling me that you cannot provide these simple files to download to my Bulgarian MMC and thus bring it inline with the usability of the other languages, why have you not provided this in the first place like the other cards?, it makes no sense. Basically I have an expensive glorified dictionary here that is of very little real functional use when abroad and trying to communicate sensibly with someone, it needs the full text translation option as with the other languages you do. As said, a couple of MB of files found in the TEXTRAN folder on the MMC and included with every other language I have as standard. Please provide this.

Dear Cleo,

The text translation function is not the standard feature.
We do have it for Russian and Spanish indeed as well as for some other languages, but not for Bulgarian.
As I said, we do not have any English <-> Bulgarian electronic full text translator or any English <-> Bulgarian text translation software at all.

Dear Val Reaves,

The full text translation feature is the only feature that makes these units of any real effective use when abroad and trying to communicate with someone sensibly in another language.
If you say you have it for the Russian and Spanish, as well as a host of the other languages, then why do you not include it on the Bulgarian? The price for the unit after all is still the same, some $400 yet the effectiveness thereof is hamstrung without the full text translation feature, to the customer’s detriment!
My point here, outlined briefly in my last post, is the program to perform this function is found on the MMC card itself in the TEXTRAN folder, its just a piece of code utilising the database words into sentences. Why has this not been included? continued...

I am sure a competent coder (one of yours) could put this together, literally, during their lunch break. This should be provided as a download for all owners of your product to update their cards with and make their purchase truly effective. I am requesting here that you make this available.
Finally please do not say “we do not have any English <-> Bulgarian electronic full text translator or any English <-> Bulgarian text translation software at all” because you do, you have just not included the simple program (explained above) on the MMC card to make it work.

Once again, we do not have any text translation program for Bulgarian.

Yes I am fully aware that you have not bothered to include the simple software program on the MMC for Bulgarian which would allow the full text translation, as is found on the other languages.

May I suggest you attend to this as soon as possible and make this available as a download for your customers to add to their MMC and provide the link on the newsletter you mention, as well as here on the forum. This is the right thing to do, particularly considering you are charging the same amount, some $400, for this language as you are for the others, but the Bulgarian of course has been effectively hamstrung and rendered almost of no use for meaningful communication when abroad at all, by the fact you have not included the simple software program for full text translation on it.

(Continued)
Please do the "right thing" for all your customers, by making this available as a download to upgrade their MMCs, it is a simple matter as outlined in my previous posts.

Dear Cleo,

If we had such software we would definitely make it available for download.
Unfortunately, we do not have this software for Bulgarian and it is not likely to be released in the near future.

Well in the light of your very definite answer Alexi, I am sure all the other owners of the EB800 will agree with me when I say that it is very disappointing that ectaco will not see fit to make this simple software addition available for download to the Bulgarian MMC and thus make the full text translation option available as can be found on the other languages.

We are left with a $400 translation investment that has been removed of its main and most useful application, by the omission on behalf of ectaco of a few megabytes of simple code. This is not good.

Dear Cleo,

The English <-> Bulgarian text translation software has not yet been developed so there wasn't any omission on our behalf.

We'll notify you in case if we release such product.

Dear Alexi,

I realise that you did not develop it (or a more accurate word would be "add" it, because you have already developed this software to work on other language platforms) and that is where the omission lies.

Yes, I would appreciate if you would notify me and indeed all owners of this expensive product when you, as mentioned previously, do the right thing hopefully, and make this simple software program available for download for your users as explained in my previous posts.

Thank you.
