Everyone has their own idea of what is the best format, but my question was which format does the jetBook Lite show the most formatting in? From what has been written Calibre does not produce output with good internal formatting. I can read plain text files if I have to, but it would be nice to have the italics, bold and other formatting. Using Calibre nothing seems to keep it's formatting. I get the bets looking books using word and saving as PDF to the right page size and the font and font size I want to read the book in.
Of course that takes forever and Calibre does everything in a batch. I am fairly new to this, about a month, but I don't want to spend more time formating a book than I do reading it.

I have a JB not a JBL so pdb is out but regardless - I use doPDF V5 to create my PDF's. *It acts as a printer and keeps all the formatting. On the JB there is no option to turn "Text Flow off/on" therefore the PDF is presented as a Picture file and all fonts and images are retained. If your JBL changes the fonts then I assume you have "Text Flow On" which converts text to the JBL font and allows resizing. The Aluratek worked that way. If you did a "Text Flow off" you were presented with the actual look of the Document.

There is no text flow on/off on the jetBook Lite either. I said that creating my own PDFs was the only way I can get a book to look the way I want because the jetBook Lite seems to strip everything out if it can. A plain txt file looks almost as good as any other except PDF.

Sorry I took it the other way. Yes the JB does the same thing. It will accept illustrations but there is no Bold or multi size fonts. Oesn't matter what formt with the exception of PDF. I found that if I size the doc closer to the screen size the created PDF is very readable, not like the ones that are gen'ed for 8 x 10.

They few I have done I did in MS Word and specified a page size of 4" wide and 5" high and fonts and formatting I preferred. There just is now way I have been able to make Calibre produce the same thing even though the setting look as if it should. I have not been able to find a program that formats files to PDF is bulk either. I think the problem is partially Calibre and partially JetBook.

If you want an easy way to have a well formatted book, Ebook Studio from ereader.com is probably your best bet.
It supports all the normal things: bold, italic, underline, strikethough, font size, justification, super/sub scripts plus lots of other things like images, bookplate, page headers, page breaks, horizontal lines, linked comments, TOC and othe links. It lets you import txt, rtf, pml, and html preserving formatting.
It's easy to use and gets the job done well. Latest release lets you create locked books without a license.

But will it create a book that jetBook Lite will not strip the formatting out of in any format other than PDF?

The way that you format the book in Ebook Studio is how it will appear on the JBL. It simply creates an eReader pdb file. WYSIWYG.
If you go to ereader.com, click on software on the left of the window, select your OS - Windows of MacOS only - select Ebook Studio. Towards the bottom of that page you will find a link for a demo. After you install the demo, read the PDF manual that comes with it - you will see everything you can do with it.

By formatting if you are referring to Fonts - then "NO" you are stuck with FBL font selection. If you are referring to layout such as "Indents" "Line spacing" etc. then read the guide at "Smashmouth.com They explain quite well the "Why's" of e-book formatting.

Too many authors want their doc's to look like the Printed Book when in reality for e-books it should be dynamic to meet the various e-readers out in the market place. There are varying screen sizes that need to be adjusted to.
Most PDF's are designed for 8X10 Paper and read well on larger PC screens but the other formats offer a more fluid display because of the nature of e-readers. IMO

Do you have a direct link to that article? Smashmouth.com seems to be some band's site..

A format that seems to work well for me on the Jetbook Lite is non-drm mobi/kindle prc files. I've tried Calbre for converting files with mixed results. I love the way Mobipocket for PC converts pdf, txt, and doc files. The formatting looks good, and there are not weird page breaks like I sometimes get with Calibre. Once you open, let's say a pdf file in Mobipocket for PC, you will then find the converted file in the My Ebooks folder on your computer. From there just copy and paste it to your sd card or JBL.
