Lets try some preliminary troubleshooting.

1) First i would try and re-download the file in case it became corrupt in the download.
2) Make sure the micro SD card you are using is 2GB or more and formatted (FAT or FAT32)
3) Be sure that the only thing on the SD card is the 'jbcupdate-os.bin' which you have renamed to 'jbcupdate.bin'

Let me know if that helps!

Hi Jerry,

1)
I ever downloaded the file 2 times

The first time there was 2 differents files
The second time the 2 files was bundled in an exe file (not very convenient for Mac OS X user
but I also have Windows)

Could you calculate md5 checksum of the 2 files (in order to compare with my 2 files) ?

2)
The micro SD card is 16GB...
It's new (FAT32 formatted)...

3)
no other files or directories
just jbcupdate-os.bin renamed to jbcupdate.bin

Regards

I've just checked my two downloaded files (r1128 Spanish) and they have the same MD5 checksums as yours, so the files aren't the problem. It sounds like the jetBook is erroring on writing to the flash memory - not good. Have you tried turning it off completely, leaving it for a bit then turning back on again? It probably won't help but you never know.

Andrew

Re:Jetbook Color update problem

Having the write error during the update process suggests to me that you
might want to try formatting the internal memory.

You would first copy everything off the internal memory into a folder on
your PC. You should then be able to return your JBC to its original
condition by just copying it back. (Just doing that might get around
the part of your memory that caused the error.)

I don't yet have a JBC to play with and don't know how you would access
any built in low level utilities the manufacturer may have left on the device.
There should be some procedure to restore the factory defaults on the
device. Even without those your PC should be able to format the "drive"
that it assumes the FAT partition of the internal memory is.

If you use your Windows PC to do the formatting you should also check the
boxes for repairing any problems with the file structure and memory/disk
surface.

Once that is done you would try the update again and hopefully it won't have
any problem writing to the JBC.

Luck;
Ken

P.S. You might have to copy back the original internal memory contents
before the update. (I would try to do it without the original contents first
and if that didn't work then try it with the original files restored.)

Interesting, is that true with your PC's explorer set to allow you to see system and hidden files?
Do you get a Drive letter for the internal memory, when you connect with the USB cable?
Well I guess the answer was no.

I expect that when you connect the USB cable and see the device in XP it has no "Drive" letter
and "Properties" list the file system as "Generic Hierarchical", is that correct?

Perhaps Ectaco could let us know if we are dealing with "MTPFS" or some other file structure?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol

Notice the "Drawbacks" section.

Luck;
Ken

P.S.;
http://eugeneboon.com/the-quickest-way-to-disable-mtp-media-player/
