I will be moving to China in a few months and am looking at getting a electronic translator. What would be a good model to get. I will need one that is able to translate in both directions. From english to Chinese and back to english. I also see that you have some with a pen that can scan and translate print.

I live in Asia and was also looking for a translator that also translates most of the south east asia languages, such as Malay, Thai, Indonesian. I spend most of my time in Choina and Malaysia so those would be the main languages.

For English <-> Chinese translation, I'd recommend our English <-> Chinese ECTACO Partner EC900 Deluxe Talking Electronic Dictionary and Audio PhraseBook with Handheld Scanner which you may find online at

This palm-size translator does not require any Internet connection and includes an extensive vocabulary of over 562,000 words featuring human pronunciation as well as Pinyin input and output for all dictionary entries.

The EC900 Deluxe model lets you scan any printed text from any paper surface which you can then upload to the translator in order to get the translation.

Alternatively, you can type in any text in English using the regular keyboard in order to have it translated into Chinese Simplified and vice versa.
The device utilizes a Wubi system of input allowing to enter Chinese characters by using keystrokes.

You can get additional languages on SD cards.
The Partner EC900 Deluxe comes with the English <-> Chinese SD card inside the unit so you will need to swap the cards each time you need a different language pair.
