I'm having the hardest time deciding which ebook device to buy, I was hoping I could get some feedback from Jetbook fans that might help me make a decision.

With the kindle now being priced as low as $114, and Jetbook being $99, there's just $15 separating the two. So price is a wash between the two.

Format support is also a wash. With Calibre batch conversion, both can support anything.

Battery, goes to Jetbook (IMHO). For my purpose, I prefer swappable disposable battery over Li-ion. I intend to keep my ebook device in my glove compartment (I have an ipad at home). I only intend to use it rarely when I don't feel like carrying my ipad, or for outdoor reading. I have a feeling the kindle will always be dead when I want to use it, unless I plan in advance.

Screen - similar between the two.

Size - jetbook, but kindle isn't too bad.

Anything else? If you recently bought a JB Mini, what was the deciding factor for you?

Hey,

Thanks for the message, i do work for the company but i will be as un-bias as possible ( i own a JBM also so im sure that helps).

What i like:
1) Better screen: It uses TFT LCD so page turns are instant. No Flash and No ghosting like kindle. Also no glare outside (same with Kindle).
2) Batteries: It has 90 hours of reading time, i HATED when my old jetBook (with internal battery) would die right in the middle of the best part. Now in the less likely chance of a battery out i just have a replacement set of AAA's with me. (it would always die in the middle of my train ride)
3) I find it easier to hold because of the bump where the batteries go. Also you can change hand for right and left hand. (my friend trashed her kindle by accidentally throwing it on the ground when trying to put it back in her backpack.

Hope this helps!

I caved in and bought a Kindle 3 because I saw it at Target. I regretted the decision as soon as I got home and I'd like to share some experiences.

Form factor. The K3 is incredibly thin and looks pretty hot. At first, I thought I was going to love it because it's really light and easy to hold in one hand. But what I quickly realized is that it's incredibly difficult to it the page buttons while holding it in only one hand! I always had to page forward/back using my other hand. Because the buttons are thin and on the edge, it's unspeakably difficult to reach with your thumb. JB mini - nice HUGE buttons on the face of the device. Plus, the JB mini has a nice wide edge to hold onto, and the battery compartment gives your other fingers something to grip around. Form factor definitely goes to the JB mini.

Content Management. This was the killing factor for the K3. I'm a huge content purchaser, Kindle and Audible. Unfortunately, there's no way to only view one or the other. I have some Audible daily subscriptions, which made it very difficult to sort through hundreds of pages to find the particular book I wanted to download. I can't believe I couldn't sort by purchase date. It got worse when I tried to load up my personal content, which I have even more of. Hundreds and hundreds of text files all neatly arranged in folders. Yeah, the kindle has a folder-like system, but you have to manage it all on the kindle. I tried copying a few folders worth of material onto the K3 and they all appeared together on the home screen. I tried managing them back into folders but it was too painful. I erased the K3 and am returning it. JB mini, incredibly easy to manage personal content. Create what ever folder and sub folder you want, fill it with your text files, done. Content management goes to JB mini.

I just wanted to follow up. Got my JB mini today and absolutely LOVE it!! I can't believe it took me so long to make this decision. I'm going to use it for a few weeks and then I'll write a very detailed (and glowing) review on Amazon.

So far, I've owned the following ereaders:

All three versions of the Kindle
iPad
Palm devices (various handspring and Palm versions)
HP Jornado
Rocket eBook REB1100
Franklin ebookman

And so far, I'd have to say that the JB mini is in a close tie for my favorite device, and may edge out my top contender (the Rocket ebook REB1100). Unfortunately, I had to retire my REB1100 because the lithium ion battery eventually died and they stopped making the device. In that respect, the JB mini wins out because the swappable batteries mean it will be with me for life! The one feature I miss from the REB1100 (which had a similar screen), is that the REB also had a backlight.

Personally, I'd love to see a JB mini pro version with a backlight, but I don't know if the market is big enough for that.

Keep up the good work! Looking forward to some updates! While ePub would be nice, it's only a minor issue to use Calibre to format everything correctly. Personally, I'd be more interested in a search function. Reading the same book on multiple different devices, it's hard to find your place if you can't do a word search.

Obviously i have somewhat of a bias but jeez, having to be locked into the kindle books store (amazon) is a game killer for me. I hate being forced to buy or get books from any one location. Especially since B&N has a much larger eBook database.

Hey Jerry,

Totally agree. I would go for a Jetbook light any day. At least, I can have a wider selection of ebooks to choose from and not being restricted to Amazon.

Glad you agree! I do appreciate the kindle as a hardware device, ill be the first to say it is cool and simple. The content limitations are definitely the deciding factor for me. We are actually in negotiations with tons of schools for our new jetBook K-12 and they have turned down items like the Kindle, iPad and Nook just because of these content restrictions. Autonomy over your content is becoming more important especially to educators.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the feedback. I too am having trouble deciding between them. I like the thoguht of the long battery life since the last thing you want is one of these things dying on you when in use.

That is definitely one of the reasons we made the jetBook Lite and then the Mini. Even if the batteries do die you can carry a spare set. I travel allot so i always keep a spare set in my backpack!
