Hi,

Oh i understand, you see that we do allot of business in the Russian market so it is assumed our company is a 'Russian' company. Since we are in NY, most of our decision makers were born in the USA and the majority of our design is done in NY i see our company as an American company.

I mean we have offices in HK, Germany, Canada as well as Russia!

Can't help imagining Jerry writing on March 8th:

Hi @andyh2000, you say you didn't get the update link? Please check your spam folder. And how about you @Komandor, no luck either? @pinguin_do, @czytacz? No? Why, I don't believe it! Seems to me you guys are among these few extremely unlucky people who have to wait beyond the seventh day. Feel free to contact us at XXX-XXX-XXX and we will email you the update as soon as <del>it's ready</del> possible.

Or its already released.

Hello Jerry,

I can imagine that you and all other support employees are afflicted by that management decision. But thet's not an excuse to get personal.
I'm just reflecting your's company output which makes customers angry.
As already posted I'm working as develloper in a hightech company (other business - automotive, not any competitor.)
I also have my experience with sales/management beeing perfect in angering customers.

The best way to do that is to leet the customer think he will get his product by a certain date and tell him the truth just on that day.

As a new customer I did not have any positive or negative prejudice to your company.
I baught a product based on the specification on your website.
Then I received the product and recognized that it does not fulfill these specifications
- 1. time disappointed.
The sticker and the support toled meto wait for the 1. March and I will get an update.
- Waiting... 2. time disappointed.
Now I'm not open minded against your company any more!

It has nothing to do with you or the other hard workers in your company. Such things are typical management problems.

It would have been easy to inform all Cuspomers in time about the delay.
It would also have been possibel to book more Bandwidth / Cloud service.
Or delivering via shared bandwidth service like torrent.
But your management took the method to anger customers instead.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I know its difficult for some customers to believe but every single piece of feedback we get i submit to management. Last Friday i submitted a message to management about sending a courtesy email to all customers based on feedback on our forums.

I hope as you guys get to grow and understand how we operate on the forums you will realize i am here to help you. I am your medium between the company and the management team. Everything you say, do, suggest i listen to and try to help.

I can say this, i agree with some things the management does and i disagree with others. I will do my best to help out within the confines of my 'authority'.

Make sure to rename the the OS file name to jbcupdate.bin on the micro sd card for performing the OS update. Once it is done, delete or overwrite the jbcupdate.bin on the micro sd with the 1.35GB firmware file jbcupdate.bin on the second step. Do the same on the rest.

Worked in your case? I renamed the file and it still does nothing. Pretty frustrating.

edit

I reformatted the card and eventually managed to run the OS update.

I am not able to run the update I always get directly to the normal menu.

Do I need a special SD Card ?

I followed the instructions step by step,

There is a bar for a short time indicating that its loading something but instead of running the update I get directly to the menu.

Any ideas ?

The Step by Step instruction is another point for the bug list.

jbcupdate-os.bin has to be renamed to jbcupdate.bin in the OS updating step.

There seem to be some download links with revisions other than 1115. Those contain files which fail the integrity test.
The download link currently on jetbook.net worked for me and is the same that was emailed to me.

Are they crazy ? I did not get the update on March the 1st. O.k.

And now they tell me that I might have to send the new jetBook which I just received back to flash the firmware ?

What a waste of time. This is really not the way how you treat customers.

Upgrade Instructions

This update package is intended only for ECTACO jetBook COLOR with version 38. If your device has an earlier version of the firmware, you must send it to Ectaco service center to flash the new version.

How to check your version of ECTACO jetBook COLOR?

In the Main Menu, select Settings.
In the Settings section, click on Device info and select Platform revision.
The first digits before dot correspond to the operating system's version.

Yours is 43 (43.35.509) so you shouldn't have to send it back. What have you got below the platform revision (should be something like "r1115 Russian r1118")?

The update files and instructions have been changed(again) and the firmware is now r1128 Spanish. This time it comes with a shed load of educational textbooks.
