I certainly don't feel I've lost my money. Yes the screen is darker than I expected, and yes it's slower than I expected, but it makes a great reader for colour comics, and in good light is fine for all sorts of large (a4) technical type documents.

It all depends on what your expectations are. I would rather pay $600-700 for the "perfect" product rather than $500 for the one with the ordinary specifications. Maybe because I am perfectionist...

Andrew;

Could I ask you to see if your JBC will display SVG files/graphics?

Here is a link to one of the free public domain graphics in one of the sites
that are offering them:

http://openclipart.org/detail/168703/farmers-gothic-by-viscious-speed

The "View Image" button is a download for the .svg file.

The System On a Chip (SoC) that powers the JBC supports OpenVG and I was wondering
if it is currently implemented.

I'm afraid not - they don't even show in the listing of files/documents on the device.

Well thanks for checking. We can only hope that it gets implemented with the firmware
updates. The Opera Browser supports it, so it may yet appear.

The only one on earth getting the firmware tells us to wait 2 more days for his results.
Was that post really independent from Ectaco?

Hint to Ectaco. Please optimize your information politics for the next month.

Daniel

Hi,

I admire your persistence for trying to evoke negative discontent towards our company. Wouldn't you think if the person worked for us he would want to get the information out asap? I'm not sure if you have worked in the tech industry but we get the update way before you, i have been playing with it for some time now...

Do you work for a competitor?

We bought the device only to discover that some of the advertised functionality wasn't available, and Ectaco have carried on advertising it the same way since with not even a note mentioning the stuff that is to come (highlighting, annotations, web browser). The box it comes in has a big sticker saying "Make sure you update your device on the 1st of March" (emphasis mine) and Ectaco have talked about a firmware release on the 1st of March and the 1st of April. Then just as we're getting all excited about having a bit more functionality it's revealed that we might have to wait up to another 7 days to get the update.

Whether or not it's really been released already to some people is a bit irrelevant - the foregoing is a recipe for grumpy customers.

For the next update I'm trying to make myself think of the date as the 7th April, then I might be pleasantly surprised if I get it before then.

By the way, I'm amazed at the continuing absence of photos/videos on the internet of these devices in the hands of "normal" users. Given its the first colour eInk with worldwide availability I'd expect YouTube to be full of unboxing videos.

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I understand also, i hope our constant updates on the forums and on blogs and other social networks is enough of a sign that we are doing what we can as fast as we can. I apologize if you are one of the persons that has to wait till the seventh day but i can assure you we have people downloading the update as we speak. Hopefully you will be one of those who receives it sooner then later.

I am not amazed... I knew I took a risk buying this product...

Hint: I am Russian and like many Russians in USA I avoid dealing with Russian companies unless I have a very good friend working for the company. That's why my Russian friends don't even know yet that I bought JetBook, otherwise they will be laughing at me.

Can someone explain to my why people think Ectaco is a Russian company? I can tell you closer to the conception of our company the persons who ran it saw a HUGE opportunity selling electronic dictionaries and translators to Russian immigrants (some of which still own and use the very first product we sold over 20 years ago).

We were established in NY 21 years ago and sour HQ is still localized in the same place.

Why it's a Russian company... Because it is Russian company in NY. I hear about Ectaco every single day on our Russian radio in Chicagoland, I've been in your store in Chicago.

Hello Jerry,

I can imagine that you and all other support employees are afflicted by that management decision. But thet's not an excuse to get personal.
I'm just reflecting your's company output which makes customers angry.
As already posted I'm working as develloper in a hightech company (other business - automotive, not any competitor.)
I also have my experience with sales/management beeing perfect in angering customers.

The best way to do that is to leet the customer think he will get his product by a certain date and tell him the truth just on that day.

As a new customer I did not have any positive or negative prejudice to your company.
I baught a product based on the specification on your website.
Then I received the product and recognized that it does not fulfill these specifications
- 1. time disappointed.
The sticker and the support toled meto wait for the 1. March and I will get an update.
- Waiting... 2. time disappointed.
Now I'm not open minded against your company any more!

It has nothing to do with you or the other hard workers in your company. Such things are typical management problems.

It would have been easy to inform all Cuspomers in time about the delay.
It would also have been possibel to book more Bandwidth / Cloud service.
Or delivering via shared bandwidth service like torrent.
But your management took the method to anger customers instead.

Daniel

According to Jerry the majority of customers have received the update by now so I don't know what the problem is.

Hi @andyh2000, you say you didn't get the update link? Please check your spam folder. And how about you @Komandor, no luck either? @pinguin_do, @czytacz? No? Why, I don't believe it! Seems to me you guys are among these few extremely unlucky people who have to wait beyond the seventh day. I'm fairly sure the update is out there now. There are pictures and a video on mobileread.com for instance.

I can't finish step one (installing OS). The device restarts normally, there is no update.

I have to wait until I get home before I can try it (another five hours).
