1. They flately refuse to grant my $40 gift voucher on over priced, OVER stated, same software, but when I explained happened, it was the same as I already paid for. said I got it 'free' (when I'd lost the chance to use the voucher!) because I was asked for FULL purchase price of Phrase Book.

2. They delete ALL complaints in the forum posts, including mine.

3. They resort to blocking your if you repost

4. Intimidate with legal threats

5. Repeatedly delete my honest postings (watch this space!)

6. Then Ectaco locked forum Subject headings, to prevent TRUTHFUL customer reviews & replies!!!

Report them here!

Dear Sir / Madam,

My name is Alex I Cowperwood, I am the ECTACO IG Sales & Marketing Director.

We've noticed that you posted a huge number of negative replies in our forum and are really perplexed as to the possible reason of your attitude. Nevertheless, we strive for a best service to our customers and will to do our all we can to satisfy your demands.

Please describe the problem in more detail in the forum or contact me directly at sales@ectaco.com

I'd really appreciate if you could post any future messages using your real name because any anonymous posts are considered less important than the ones that are not.

Also, it is absolutely unnecessary to post the same information in different topics and especially to post it in somebody else's topics that do not have anything to do with this discussion.

2nd ...after I'd agreed to buy the 'Eng./Thai Phrase book' believing it to be INTEGRATED with the Dict (again from reading about it on the website).

But It didn't work as expected either, so I asked Tech support, why the Software kept reporting error when selecting it to 'open the phrase book' and was told by Paul, 'That feature is disabled'. So, no, I'm far from being a happy customer.

1st...misleading Web statements influenced my decision to purchase, the 'Talking English <->Thai Dict. written up as BIDIRECTIONAL SPEECH enabled Talking Eng-Thai,
http://australia.ectaco.com/products/LingvoSoft-Suite-English-Thai-for-Pocket-PC/
BUT...it's ENGLISH audio only! I speak English, they knew that when I first emailed Lisa & Paul to enquire. The Update was offered to me 'Free' IF I paid full purchase price of the Talking Thai Phrasebook I mentioned I was also considering buying.

I was told the Talking Thai Dictionary had been improved since last year and I would get it for 'free' if I paid the FULL price for the Phrasebook, (I had a $40 gift Voucher I could have used! Why wouldn't I it's still valid?) There's NO noticeable change, it is the same as I had already paid for last year and then was refused credit for my $40 AUD voucher...

I did not intend to multiple post in the Forums,

BUT when I'd go back to look immediatly after postings, they were not
showing up! So, thinking they hadn't posted, I did them again (after a few tries I quit thinking they were blocked)

So yeah...sorry, that was not intended.

PS: I forgot to mention both Software's are for Pocket PC

Thanks! This was first email enquiry to Ectacto (since my previous purchase of the Thai Dictionary a few mths before):

Subject: Re: Thank you for shopping at Ectaco, Inc. Order# AU-40492

Hi I purchased this software last year and it only speaks the Thai words in English, (not English to Thai speech) I was just looking at your

http://australia.ectaco.com/products/LingvoSoft-Suite-English-Thai-for-Pocket-PC/

and I noticed that software is now \\\"a speech-enabled, bidirectional translating dictionary\\\"

My question is, can I download that updated version now?

I\'m also looking at the LingvoSoft Talking PhraseBook 2006 English <-> Thai for Pocket PC

Regards

[name removed]

PS: I am trying learn Thai, the Dictionary uselessly pronounces the words in English, so I would hardly purchase the same English speech version again eh?

Dear Mrs Marion Gray,

We do not provide misleading information at our website, but once it
happened that you felt misled, we deeply apologize. I will further
investigate this issue to find out how this could happen with our
content team.

I'd like to note that we did not mention at our website that the
dictionary speaks in Thai. The dictionary description clearly indicates
that it has English speech synthesis only. And of course we did not
intend to deliberately cheat in any way.

It seems that we've finally been able to locate your order. Here's the
story, correct me if I'm wrong.

1. One year ago you purchase the English <-> Thai dictionary for a full
price.

2. Half a year ago we released an update of this dictionary which
included support of horizontal display, new display resolution and
Windows Mobile 5.0 support as well as several other changes, and we
informed you about these changes. Perhaps we've mistakenly made an
impression that the updated version speaks Thai.

3. We offered you the updated version for free with the purchase of the
English <-> Thai phrasebook which speaks Thai which is what you wanted.

Now it turns out that you didn't need the updated version and that you
purchased the phrasebook in vain.

Nevertheless, there was some misunderstanding from both sides. I'm not
talking that ECTACO is right and you are not. It's just we should find a
way out of this situation.

I regret to inform you that we cannot make a refund for this dictionary especially
it was given to you for free as a gift.
But we can organize many other things.

In addition to the dictionary I could offer the LingvoSoft English <-> Thai
Flashcards for free. Although they do not talk, it is an excellent tool
for learning new words
https://www.ectaco.com/LingvoSoft-FlashCards-English-Thai-for-Pocket-PC/

Besides, we are about to release a new LingvoSoft English <-> Thai dictionary with
pictures. It will include approximately 2500 travel words that will be
pronounced in real human voice as recorded by native speakers in either
language, and will include a picture for each word. It is likely that we
release the dictionary in the 1st quarter of 2007.

And finally the next update of the dictionary which will also be without
Thai voice, but with an option of adding customized dictionary of your
own and with an ability to integrate with the phrasebook and the
flashcards you will get absolutely free.

Please accept these gifts from our side and don't be angry, we did not intend
to offend or mislead you in any way.

Moreover, we plan to release the LingvoSoft English<->Thai Partner ETh800 in a few
weeks. Unfortunately, it also will not speak in Thai.
You'll receive the best possible price for this product.
Have a look at our Russian version with similar functions at
https://www.ectaco.com/main.jsp?do=products-view_item&item=5231

Back to multiple posts. Seems that there were some troubles with your
connection.
We'll delete all of them if you do not mind.
Only one topic (this one) will remain.

Thanks for trying to sort out this disapointment, I'd REALLY appreciate it if you took a look at HOW the ads are worded, to avoid others (and I have copies of deleted post about Japanese, another Chinese software translations ) who like me, got it wrong?? about the software, being BIDIRECTIONAL speech. Please don't use that wording without clearly stating the ONE way language it pronounces. Using English <-> Thai, in the same sentance, INFERS to me and others, it's ENGLISH speech TO THAI speech. eg. quote: "This essential set of software includes a speech-enabled, bidirectional translating dictionary with an extensive 400,000 word vocabulary"; Please, can you read it from our perspective, it is misleading, it DOES infer the speech is bidirectional in the dictionary.

PS: The double ups woudn't keep occurring with my posts IF your company stopped BLOCKING my IP :S

Purchasing translation software that doesn't SPEAK the Thai Lanquage (or Chinese or Japanese ect) when trying to LEARN is pointless, it's a TONAL lanquage, you have NO idea how to pronounce the words, so how can you learn? I look forward to recieving the speech enabled Thai when it's released, thank you!

Like I said, please make it clear in your ads, so people DO make an informed choice, state that the speech is ENGLISH only and mainly useful for foreigners to learn our language, not the other way around.

None of us like wasting money on something we can't use and then being told and treated like it's our problem.
