Be warned if you have a Nokia 6600 and you purchase the translator, it works only one way, English to Russian. The application closes if you try Russian to English.
Contacted Lingvosoft and they say a fix is forthcoming but don't say by when. Shame as the English Russian translator is good but not much help as I am English and I need to know what Russian words mean!
Anyone else have the same problem and what responses have you had about it?

Seems that this is a bug with particular ROM for some Nokia devices.
We've check the Eng-Rus dictionary on Nokia 6600 and some other mobiles, but no such bug was found!
Plz try to update your Nokia 6600 ROM to latest stable version available from the manufacturer, and check our dictionary again.

If this is true, what version of phoneware / software do your test phones have loaded? Having spoken to Nokia getting the upgrade loaded is not as easy as your reply suggests.
I think it has more to do with the fact that most phones don't have the Cyrillic alphabet loaded - does this make a difference?

Further to your reply telling me it was my software, this is an extract from Paul Feo, Customer Support Manager, Ectaco Inc:
Yes, it is a known bug for Nokia 6600. Our developers are working on it. As soon as the new upgrade version is completed we will publish it.
As you might have gathered I'm not impressed! Would like to know whether you intend fixing the known bug or giving me my money back!

Hi,
I've tried Eng-Rus dictionary and decided to uninstall it. Apparently it is not possible to do, at least by conventional methods (message "Unable to remove. Application open" appears). Do I have to reset the system drive to get rid of it?

Yes, you should restart your device and uninstall dictionary just after that.
The reason is that system holds font used for transcription even after dictionary closed, so font file cant be removed.

Can I ask if you're dictionary actually worked properly before you tried uninstalling it?

Hi,
I have a same problem with my Siemens SX1. Dictionary works only one way - <English - Russian>. And it doesn't work the other way - <Russian-English>. Paul Feo, Customer Support Department, replied to me that <Russian-English> is still under development and it is a known fact that this software is conflicting with ROM.
My concern is - why to sell a Product if it so raw and can't function for the purpose that it has been designed for? I think your customers should be compensated for your unfunctional software.
Thank you,
Simon

I tried the software on the SX1 and it does the same. I now have a Sony-Ericsson and I can't even get that version to load!
That is my point exactly about selling software that doesn't work. I know that the software is not expensive, but it should at least work even if it's not quite what you expect.
When are Lingvosoft going to give us some answers about when this software is going to work or about a refund?

Dear users,
We are currently trying to solve the problem. Just an advice: please TRY software before buying. You may download trial version for free. Some devices are relally not compatible and we indicate this in product info, and ask you to try first. Unfortunately we do not have an opportunity to test all of them for compatibility. Sorry for inconvenience. Please email at info@lingvosoft.com regarding money back. Thank you.

I did try the product before buying, but it does state that not all the functionality is available in the test version, so just assumed that the fact the Russian - English translation was switched off. The logic being that the trial version maybe be good enough for my needs, so why pay for the full version. So I'd agree with you when you tell people to try before you buy, but I'd like to add that what you see is actually what you get, so if it doesn't function properly don't buy it.

"not all the functionality is available" means that only 10% of 400 000 entries is available In trial version you may switch between languages. You may find this option in Trial version menu and translate from Russian to English as well. We tested this apps on mentioned mobile phones and it worked OK So the issue arises when definite model is used.
Regs.

Your answers are not very consistent. Your last two replies have contradicted each other, ones says you acknowledge the problem and are trying to solve it and the next you state that on the phones you used it works.
I have an SX1 and A nokia on which it doesn't work and from the forum it appears so does someone else. It would appear to me that it doesn't actually work - so which is it, is there a problem or not in your view?

Well, I mean that this problem is device specific. Which means that your SX1 and Nokia systems may not provide Russian language support. This can be the reason. The phones we tested the apps on does support Russian, so it works. Unfortunately we cannot solve the problem at this moment. Sorry
