I would like to add couple of more to the list

Model: Both

(1) 360 degree screen rotation, so that we can hold the device in either hand comfortably. Especially helpful in jetBook lite.

(2) Support for user uploaded fonts. Say, read all the fonts from "Fonts" directory in the SD card during startup.

(3) Font anti-aliasing support. For example, after ADE upgrade, default serif font looks pretty "rough" without this.

Hi Jerry,

My comments are about the jetBook Lite.

1) Better English dictionary. I estimate I found only 10% of the words I looked up when reading the books that came with the device.

2) I love the new firmware v16e with the pdf reflow, but I find that zoom at 200% is too big with too large spacing, and 150% is too small. So a way to get it between those two figures would be good.

3) Too few letters of the title of each book appear when I go to main listings.

Thanks!

For number three, have you tried cycling through the
"Zoom" button while in the "eBooks" menu? You can
get a smaller font and thus more letters on a line.

Hey,

Thanks for the feedback. Oh no!! it appears half of the original post is gone. i will work on updating this again. I have noticed this in all of of the posts where half of it is cut off. I'm not sure why the update had such an effect. Thanks again!

Thanks Ken! That hadn't occurred to me.

It would be nice to include in the next update(s) for jetbook-lite:

1. Hyphenation and varying of space between lines (It would be better to read more dense text);
2. Browsing of contents for FB2 files;
3. Jumping on certain percentage;
4. Storing within a bookmark a short passage of the marked page or a note.

Nevertheless, Thank you for a good device! )

For Jetbook Lite (possibly others):

- Dictionary with Portuguese language and English-Portuguese

- Dictionary available for all type of books. When not possible for the operating system select/highlight the words directly from the text, permit the user to manually enter the word for consulting

- User added fonts

- Special characters in filename ("#", "_") for screen formatation and presentation of titles documented and working in the same manner across all file formats (txt, epub, pdf...)

- Fix the bug that freezes Jetbook when one opens a book that has "(" or ")" in the filename

- Since it uses Linux, release some documentation of GPLed parts so the brave souls in the community can tweak some modifications

For all Jetbook models:

- Full text rotation: 90, 180, 270 degrees, so the devices can be used up-side down even in landscape mode, allowing a confortable grip for right and left handed people.

Particularly usefull for Mini, IMHO. Every time that I look a picture of the Mini I can only imagine that he was made for a left-handed person...

That should be easy to implement, since we have full rotation for pictures in Jetbook and Jetbook Lite.

Hey,

Thanks a bunch for all of the feedback! I have added it to the main post.

Also the jetBook Mini does have "All-Way" reading angles so you can read the book in any direction you like. Maybe it would be a good idea to add this to the jetBook Lite and regular. Thanks again!

Jetbook lite:

- the firmware upgrade link leads do a self-extractable file. Bad decision: this is a windows executable.

Leave the update files in zip type format, so it can be extracted under any operating system.

The selfextracting .exe file can still be opened by a program that can "Unzip" files. If the .exe bothers
you you could change it to .zip.

nope.

eg. in linux:

orlando@dragao:~/Download$ zip -T Lite-0.16e.exe.zip
zip warning: missing end signature--probably not a zip file (did you
zip warning: remember to use binary mode when you transferred it?)
zip warning: (if you are trying to read a damaged archive try -F)

zip error: Zip file structure invalid (Lite-0.16e.exe.zip)

Renaming a self-extractable from .exe to .zip in Windows could result in a correct extraction due file and programs associations, etc, but it is not true in other operating systems.

Leaving the update files in .zip format makes them accessible acroos all platforms, since virtually all OS's can manage zipped files.

Hmm... filename.exe.zip would be confusing to me as well, that's not exactly renaming the extension from .exe to .zip, is it?

You might give "RAR" a try, it has Linux, Linux x64, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, MS DOS, and Pocket PC versions for download:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

You don't need to change the file name except to avoid program associations, so that you can open the file in your zip program.
(Not an issue for Command Line functions in Linux.)

A quick Google: "self extracting zip file on Linux"

You just want the unzipped data onto your FAT formatted media/drive. Linux is famous for use as a server for all kinds of files.

Ken

Jerry, other eBook readers have a feature that I miss with my JBL.

I would like a list of the most recent eight books I have opened.

With physical books, the ones I am reading I keep on my top shelf. But with the JBL, everything is returned to alphabetical order.

I have started a few books, and I'd like to go back to them if I could remember which they were!
