Any ETA on ePUB DRM for the Jetbook Lite? I've been reading ebooks on my Palm m500 for years but have now decided to upgrade to a newer reader with a larger screen. I have been on the fence between the Jetbook Lite and the Nook waiting for each to mature with software updates.

Having ePUB DRM on the Jetbook Lite would seal the deal as it would provide access to library books, and Barnes and Noble (who it seems is changing over to ePUB).

Current version of Jetbook-Lite supports only DRM PDB files.

ECTACO is working on the new version which would support ePub DRM and will provide updates shortly.

Is there any update on when new firmware for the Jetbook Lite that will enable it to read Barnes and Noble drm epub documents will be released? While there are other sites that sell B&N drm pdb files such as fictionwise and ereader, they do not have nearly the selection as B&N. And the fact that a version of the Barnes and Noble Nook for 149$ is soon to be released with wifi capability makes the Jebook Lite look less and less attractive. This shortcoming needs to be addressed quickly if the Jetbook Lite is to remain a viable product.

Dunno. I was waiting for Adobe ePUB DRM and decided to take one last look this morning. Still nothing, not even an estimated date.

In the meanwhile, the Wi-Fi only Nook at $149 announced yesterday has proven irresistible, so I went ahead and ordered it this morning.

You may read DRM ePub files from www.ereader.com and www.fictionwise.com on Jetbook-Lite 0.15d

I went and looked at the nook wifi (and downloaded the manual) - from what I saw/read the nook isn't very friendly toward books not bought from B&N and loaded directly to the device. Any files (books) that you add manually, you have to access from a single list of books, and there apparently isn't any way to sort the list. Which seems to me, if you have a whole lot of non-nook content, that looking for and finding something would be a bit of a pain. Not sure this is true - would be interested in hearing what your experiences are.

I love being able to sort my books the way I want like you can on the JBL and would only consider another brand if it was able to do something similar.

I am sorry to say but I have found and installed on my jetBook (regular jetBook) not the jetBook lite. Firmware .035a.
When I purchased my jetBook in Feb 2010 it came with FW .34 & had no DRM support. Now with FW .35a I have ADE DRM for ePUB/PDF as well as "Text Flow on/off" support for PDF reading and active TOC in both ePub and PDF provied the doc has active TOC built in.

You lose search/find as well as Dictionary support within ePub.

I have it installed and it works greate - big improvement for PDF reading as well.

This firmware is not listed on their Website and I have yet to be notified via email of it's existence. What gives?

Any ideas on when a corresponding jetbook lite firmware would be available? We are hearing a "coming soon" message for around 6 months now...

No but seriously i am told an ETA of 2-3 weeks. Don't shoot the messenger (me) if it takes longer. This estimate was from one of our product managers.

Phil, of Ectaco, has just answered an email of mine, telling me that firmware 0.15g for the jetBook lite supports epub files.
I have a B&N epub file on my SD card. Its title shows up, but when I try to open it I get only a blank page. No page numbers or any other indication that there is anything there.
Perhaps you can tell me how to open it and read it??

Hi philsexton,

Right now only jetBook regular (beta version 0.35e) can read these B&N ePub files. From what i understand these are password protected by B&N. The jetBook Lite can read ePub just not password protected ones....yet.

As i mentioned above we should have an update soon so the jetbook Lite can do this, i was told 2-3 weeks but maybe sooner.

Hope this helps!

Having read many posts, I have now updated my firmware as directed and I have copied my epub file from my computer (which has already been added as an item on the shelf in the computers digital editions, and it was from the My Digital Editions folder in my documents that it was copied from) as supplied by my local library. Which in theory should now work.

My book with a little icon with <> in the middle of it, appears in my list on my jetbook and so I start rejoicing, select the book to find.......
a blank page

I can't see to find any other instructions to follow.... help me please. I have been researching these files etc for the last 2 hrs and am now going slightly insan(er).

I don't want to buy a sony (hate em) or a nook (you what?) or any other thingy-ma-jig - I am a simple soul and LIKE the way Jetbook turns the pages without flashing on my eyes like others. If i can just get my library e-books working i will be a happy chappy.

Thanks.....

So now there is a .35e for the Regular jetBook and it supports B&N's ePub!

What happen to b,c,d?

I have installed .35a which supports ADE ePub/PDF DRM and adds Text flow for PDF documents. I heard about .35a through another forum.

You state that .35e supports B&N's ePub - will it also support ADE's ePub/PDF DRM or do we end up relinquishing that format for B&N's ePub DRM?

This is all getting quite confusing!

What I do know is that prior to .35a the regular jetBook had no DRM support, no TOC support for ePub and no Text flow support for PDF.

After .35a the regular jetBook finally has support for ADE DRM both ePub and PDF, TOC works in both ePub and PDF and there is now Text Flow on/off support for reading PDF docs. Great update.

ADE DRM is widely supported by various vendors and Public Libraries.

B&N ePub DRM is supported by B&N and their affiliates but not by your Local Library (I believe).

Anyone who has a regular jetBook and has not upgraded to .35a will

Anyone who has a regular jetBook and has not upgraded to .35a will not lose anything by doing the .35e as they had no DRM support anyways.

Will those who have upgraded to .35a still be able to read and buy ADE DRM supported ebooks once they upgrade to .35e?

From what I have heard the jetBook-lite supports B&N DRM for pdb files.

*****The jetBook web site still reflects old FW and Patch with no explanation of what benefits these updates give the client.
***** The above comment is in error as they have updated their website.

Update -- the website has changed and it does reflect the latest FW for both JB and JBL but it still doesn't tell you what new features are being added by applying the FW. Ther is no mention of DRM support for the JB on the website. They still do not mention Html as a suppo9rted file format. There is just a vague mention of bug fixes.

John

Hey ezeechair,

Thanks for the question, i think some intermediate versions 0.35b 0.35c were not officially released and were for internal purposes only.

I believe from now on the jetBook 9(JB-5)should support ADE DRM.

Hope this helps!
