Is there a list anywhere of what firmware version have come out? Or can someone tell me (that has updated theirs) how the firmware name shows up on the JBL? I don't mean to sound like an idiot (I know how to check it) but I bought a JBL and really like it. I noticed here people saying an update is due out in Apr. I was reading on another forum and someone mentioned a firmware update that was out 0.15d (dated Jan. 2010). I checked mine and it shows software v0.15 and patch v15. Does the update actually show 0.15d?

Another thing, I saw a post asking about a fireware change log. I would have though a programming company would supply this. Has anyone though of creating a wiki page documenting changes they've found?

Thanks
Ghost

I updated my jetbook lite last night. The firmware version now says
Software V0.15d Patch V15

So the update level does show in the firmware version screen under system info.

I'd like some info about this 15d jbl update:
Is this supposed to prevent the horrible frozen jbl problem people keep talking about? Mine has frozen a half-dozen times, but removing and replacing the batteries always resets it--still, I'd hate to see mine freeze for good one day. Really want to know if this update prevents that. Also, will I have to redo my credit card info for purchased books if I do a firmware update? And will I lose my bookmarks, last pages read in all my books? What about preferences? Will I need to rest all my fonts and text size?
If this doesn't guarantee my jbl won't freeze up, not sure if it is worth fooling with, if it does, then I definitely want the update.

Since ectaco doesn't provide change info I have no idea what they are updating. Personally I still have my lockup crash and reset to default issue when I reopen eReader DRM books where I have the font set at any other size than the tiny little default font size. So still no big font for me.

On another forum someone said that the DRM books now had dictionary. Since I don't use dictionary much I don't know if the feature is new or not. (says something about what I read lol)

On the plus side the unit does reboot and not hang on restart.

Count your blessings. Mine DOES hang on restart. This is 2nd time. Already had unit replaced 1 time. After 2 weeks of tech support promising me the new firmware would fix it without another return and changing their story 3 times on when new firmware would be out, it doesn't fix it without a return and Ectaco refuses to give me a refund for my defective unit. My next stop is the Better Business Bureau.

0.15 means old version. Please, update to current version – 0.15d.

ECTACO doesn’t provide change log information.

Ectaco INC,

As I have already told you, 15d won't load, 15 wont load, 14n won't load. NONE of the firmware will load BECAUSE the unit hangs BEFORE it gets to the point of loading firmware. I told you this 2 weeks ago and you ignored it then too. ie that 2 weeks ago when you ASSURED me the new firmware would fix the hanging on the logo screen defect without returning the unit again. You despite being asked multiple times never said how to load the firmware with a unit that hangs. Now you want me to ship the unit back again. Already done that 1 time for EXACT same problem. My question again is how do I know this won't keep happening? How, since you won't give me a refund for defective merchandise, do I believe you are telling the truth this time about finally fixing this design def

Ectaco INC,

is it worth it for me to update the firmware to .15d from 0.15 since i am not buying ebooks. right now it does not hang on PDF, only time it hangs is my epub books that i use calibre to convert pdf to epub. when i try to open epub it hangs & i have to do the hard reset. other than that i have no problems with pdf that i am reading.

so should i wait till the next ver firmware update or should i just use as it works right now. also i notice i dont have a dictionary which is not important right now for me.

also is there a way to back up this firmware just in case i dont like the .15d & go back to this firmware.

thx

If you won't provide a changelog, can you at least tell us what the current firmware fixes so we can give you feedback about whether your changes worked or not?

Practically every company at least tells its users what the current fix fixes. Can't you act like an ethical, consumer-minded member of the development community?

IMO, badgering the help ain't likely to make the company do things differently. (But I guess venting does make some people feel better.)

Chances are Green doesn't know what changes were made - and maybe nor does the company. The impression I get is the firmware updates have been outsourced to someone in Russia, and who probably hasn't communicated what got changed.
