I just got the Jetbook Lite about 3 weeks ago. I have loaded some literary magazines and books on the SD card. Worked fine for awhile.

Now the unit is locked up. It remains frozen on the first screen (not the menu). It remains powered up and will not turn off. I must remove the batteries to power off.
I have tried resetting and powering on the unit about 8 times now with no luck. It appears like it is resetting, but the unit remains on the first screen. I have left the unit alone for 30 minutes in this state. It does not advance past the first screen. The buttons do nothing.

I have tried removing the batteries and the SD card. No luck.

All I did was attempt to navigate from my list of folders up one level to the menu screen. That is when the screen went blank. Usually I can just hit reset and hold the power button for 5 seconds. It just locks up.

If you hook it up to your coputer by the USB cable does anything happen? Does it come up as a device or the connected to pc screen on JBL?

Windows throws an error that states that the USB device is unrecognized.

Jetbook lite remains on the first screen.

I have tried upgrading the firmware according to the provided procedures.

The Jetbook remains on the first screen. It never gets to the image.

Mine locked up in the middle of reading a book. (no response to any key) I Tried every suggestion that I could find on the internet. I had updated to 14n, the day I received my JBL, Jan. 9th. It was totally locked and would not get beyond the JetbookLite screen. After calling tech support, I have sent it in for repair and ordered a new one, for my wife. I didn't want to wait a week for a repair. Sure hope that it doesn't happen again. I will upgrade the new one with 15n.

My jetbook locked up on the start up screen. I was reading a book and it just would not respond. I reset it and took the batteries out and replaced them with new ones I it will not even get up to the point were i can upgrade the firmware. I replaced the batteries reset it over and over but know luck. I even took the flash drive out and formated it. . I'm totally stumped on this one.

I received my 2nd JBL and successfully updated to V015. The update took a good 10 min., while the update on my earlier device to the then current 14n, took only a minute or so. Very happy with this one and will post when first one is returned from Ectaco.

As promised in my last post, I am reporting on my 'locked up JBL' experience. I am very pleased to report that I just got a UPS delivery of a replacement JBL from Ectaco. The locked up unit was just under 1 month old. The replacement is a brand new unit, in box with cable and new batts. Ver. 15 came installed. The unit is working perfectly with my SD card. Now I have a new unit for my wife's V-day gift! My two JBL's cost less than I had planned for the one NOOK that I had originally intended to purchase.

My jetbook lite has also locked up while reading a book. Upon reset its stuck on the Jetbook -Lite by ECTACO screen. Numerous resets and battery changes have accomplished nothing. An attempt to reload the firmware did nothing. Sat on the Jetbook-lite by ECTACO screen for 20 minutes. Above another person was told to talk to support personnel to get an address to send their Jetbook Lite back for replacement. I don't see any link on the site for doing that. Please tell me how to contact the support people. I need to return this one. Hope the replacement will last a bit longer than 2 months (Sigh) Ok found it but considering I NEVER got a reply to an email 2 months ago I am not real hopeful the support link is going to do a lot of good. If there is a way to talk to a person vice hoping email works please let me know.

Not 100% sure, but believe that this is the contact info and address that I used:
Ectaco Corporate Center
31-21 31st Street
Long Island City, NY 11106 USA
Tel. 718-728-6110
I would advise calling the above number and asking for tech support. If directed to return, use the above address and mark package "Warranty Repair JBL". I was told that no RMA was required, but that may change.

Well I got a reply to the email. RMA is required now and 2 long distance calls haven't gotten me a person to get the RMA from yet. I got a voice mail and when I tried to call tech support I got an advertizment about how wonderful their products are. Not a very apt advertizment considering people calling that number are the ones with an item that is not working right. I would be a lot happier getting voice mail and worse if I was calling a toll free number. But I would settle for getting a person that could help me.

Well things are looking up. I never did get a call back about the RMA # but Pavel responded to my email to him and got me fixed up. Thanks for looking out for us Pavel. You seem to be virtually the only person working for ECTACO that actually gives a damn about things.

Well I got my replacement jetbook lite today. A little slower than others but maybe it had to be shipped further. Still a bit concerned that something quit to the point the unit had to be replaced after only 2 months. I sure hope that is the exception to the rule.

I have seen in forums that at least 3 of us have had the jetbook lite freeze up on the first screen. They have been replaced which is good. My question is what cased this and is it hardware or firmware? Can I expect this to happen again in 2 months? My warrenty is only for a year.
