Can we have the changelog of the following firmware, please?

Here is what I have discovered:

This firmware update seems to solve several problems. First, there is no text loss at the end of the page for DRMed PDB from ereader.com. Second, there is now an option for changing the alignment from full justification to left aligned. And third, I think they've fixed the problem with having to enter unlock information for each book. I tried this with three different books and was only asked for the information for the first one. I say this with the caveat that I've played with these books for a while and may have opened them previously. Hopefully someone else can confirm this. There may be other changes but I haven't found them yet.

I received my jB-L today, only to find the problems described by others. BUT! I downloaded the 0.15 firmware upgrade, and the lost words are not lost any longer.
This little unit will be almost as present to me as my cellphone, I think. It just won't fit in my shirt pocket. :S
Thanks. I am very happy.

I can confirm that the DRM protection information does not need to be re-entered!!! I upgraded, completely erased all books, formatted my card and erased alll data on the internal memory. I then put DRM protected books on both the internal and SD. I only needed to enter the DRM information once per encryption (I have books that are encrypted as "First Middle Last" and "First Last" )

Probably a silly question for this forum but how are you notified about new firmware versions? I saw the new firmware earlier today but only because I kept checking the ftp site, certainly there is a better method??? I asked Ectaco support but what I got back from Paul was to register at www.ectaco.com. I could not find anywhere to register to receive firmware notifications for the Jetbook Lite.

Confirmed here, too: I've now done the update myself. Jeepea is right: the ECTACO jetBook - Lite now DOES remember your credit card number, so you only have to enter it once; other books open right up without you having to re-enter it or your name.

Justification on/off, works, too, but defaults to ON for every new book you open -- I wish you could set it permanently off.

Still no dictionary support, no highlighting, and no annotations. But it's now usable, and the hardware is quite nice, I must say.

I do not know the level of interest but thouth I would share this just in case.

If you want to install the firmware and do not have a Windows computer, the files can be extracted using 'unrar' on a Linux computer.

Wine will also work if you absolutely MUST have a GUI.

I have extracted the firmware files for Lite_0.15.exe and Lite_0.14m.exe via both methods and performed a md5 check against the files. Both extracted perfectly.

To techs at ECTACO a big thank-you for so speedily solving the 2 major aggravations. Now that I can read my library of ereader books I can retire my ailing Palm!

I DO NOT like or trust Microsoft. I do not allow Windoze on any computer I connect to the Net. The only device I have that runs Windows is a Tablet PC that I use as a reader.

My current computer is a MacBook. and I have numerous Linux machines available. Is there a Mac or Linux version of this firmware update ?

.Go Andrew. I have often wondered how a company can say that they are Mac friendly when you cannot get an update unless you are running windows. You either do both or you don't. Granted my macs can run windows, natively, but I refuse to pay for the OS. And no I don't want a freebie either. Please, I have young cats in the house.
.
So, ECTACO, you mac friendly or are you just faking it?
.
Either way I do like your little reader. Lee

You can get the update on any machine that can handle FTP (my public library has problems here)

You can then run Atuffit unStuffit or whatever on the file on a Mac
'unrar' or many other unzip programs on Linux

https://www.ectaco.com/ectaco-posts/list/18618.page

Moreover the poster said "I do not allow Windoze on any computer I connect to the Net."

So you can also do ftp, net connected, on Mac or Linux, then copy to a memory stick and hand carry to a non-Net connected Windows box where you can run Winzip on it.

Please let us know how you get on.

I managed to run the update. Thanks to Little Egret for the instructions. Now I am left with one working machine and one that will not start. When I put batteries in and press the on button it gets stuck on the jetBookj Lite screen.

Anyone got any ideas ? (I tried to flash the new firmware on the machine but that did not work.)

Have you tried 'reset' ?

When you say "that did not work" what exactly happened ?

What is now on the SD card of the "will not start" machine ?

Little Egret, how would all those windows users feel if it was just the opposite, everything was Mac friendly and you had to figure out how to translate that update to windows? Well we go through this constantly. That is why when a company says it is Mac friendly, we buy hoping that it is the truth. From what I can see it for the most part is.
.
It isn't that I can't use windows, I am the go to person at work when people need help on the PCs. Even with programs I have never seen before. I just refuse to use windows on my computers, in my home or away from work. My choice. There are others that feel the same.
.
Hopefully, one day soon, there will be a page for both regular and lite. It should contain, the latest update name and number for both, and it should contain a link to go for the PC update and the Mac update, again for both. Should not be difficult for this company to do. That is all I ask.

Andrew, you may have to send the machine back to ECTACO and have them do a redo on it. One benny would be you would have the latest upgrade for your version of jetbook.
