Hi,

Could I please get the correct links and procedure for the LITE firmware upgrade. I have seen three different procedures listed, mostly because of the confusion between the regular and LITE versions. Also, my LITE has a listing in "Settings" that says "Upgrade", but, of course, there are no instructions anywhere as to what this is for.

I get the uncomfortable feeling that there are different methods for these two units and I am hesitant to just "see what works".

Thanks

I just updated my new JBL using this patch;

ftp://custftp:FQSswyvGQ20So@ftp.ectaco.com/Lite_0.14n.exe

and these instructions;

http://jetbook.net/upgrade.php

Something to keep in mind - after doing the update you will need to rekey all your DRM eReader books...

You're better off waiting until the next patch comes out; promised sometime next week. The patch supposedly address the DRM "missing line" problem.

Thanks, I will wait for the next one. In the mean time, if I follow the instructions above for the regular Jetbook, does anyone have an idea what the upgrade part of my JBL settings menu does?

It adds another level of customer frustration due to the lack of proper documentation.

How True! I especially like the undocumented uses for the number bottons running down the right side.

Come on Ectaco... how hard could it be to have a real owner's manual??

For those of us not in the know, what are the undocumented uses for the number buttons?

One button macro that I found is - while in a books menu, if you press the "0" button you toggle between "titles" and "authors".. I've had stuff happen when I pressed some of the other buttons, but don't really know what they did..

Maybe there needs to be a thread started for listing button functions as people find them.

Found another -

While in a book press "1" and the top-left word is highlighted with a dark cursor. You can then use the arrow buttons to move the cursor down into the text. Once you have choosen a word, press the "OK" button and a window will popup with the definition of that word. Seems not to work with pdb files though.

Huh... wondering now if someone out there is currently working on one of the "Dummies" books or at least on of those "How to Do Everything.." books. Guess the device's OS will need to be a bit more finished before that happens.

I am not sure of all there are, I just tried pushing a few of them at different times and I find that there are all kinds of short cuts that pop up.

1. Download and unpack the firmware package and then transfer the Data, firmware, and reflash_nor folders to the root directory of an SD card. Make sure your SD card does not contain any files other than those found in the firmware package.
2. Place the SD card into your jetBook SD slot.
3. Press the Reset button. The device will turn off. Do not turn it on.
4. Press and hold the On/Off button and right arrow key simultaneously until the jetBook logo appears on the screen.
5. The update process will take about 10 – 15 minutes.
WARNING! Do not press any keys on your jetBook while updating is in progress!

I have downloads a few books from Barnes and Noble, and they were in EPUB format, not PDB. The book appears to start, but never does when you select it. I'm gonna try the new .15 firmware and see what happens.

What's going on for some of these is that pressing "1" is the same as the option "1" you see by pressing menu. This would be more useful if all the viewer which had an option gave it the same number.

PDF of course doesn't yet have a Dictionary or even a Find option.
