I downloaded the latest version of Jetbook firmware last night. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I found I had downloaded a .exe file. One of te reasons I bought the Jetbook was that it was computer agnostic; now firmware is provided in a windows self extracting package? I own a Mac which naturally doesn't recognize this format.
Is there a .zip version of the firmware or a tarball of the firmware that I can download?

.
It is there, but the site is for jetbook not jetbook lite. Good news for some, possibly good news, but more likely bad news for the lite buyers.

Sorry I don't agree. Original post was for Jetbook not Jetbook lite.
The zip file for Jetbook lite is here:

No bad news for anyone

True no bad news, just confusing news.
.
No where does it advise that there are instructions for mac users. The only reference is for PC users. Granted if you know that it is for mac you would go and download. It just doesn't say Hey Mac owners go here for the upgrade. Is it too much to ask for a simple declarative sentence?
.
Not only that but there are messages to Mac owners elsewhere from ECTACO that says we don't have stuff for you in zip format, you have to find a windows machine to do any upgrades. OR you can send us your machine and we will do it for you.
.
You can see where we might get the idea that ECTACO doesn't have upgrades if you have a Mac. I would like it if somewhere the company kept a reference as to what is the latest upgrade numbers are for the Lite. So far I must have missed it, but I will continue to look 'cause I believe it is out there. I have v0.14n and patch 15

I will be happy to translate the exe format to any other format you want...... Once it is working. The new version fails to install on at least 5 different peoples jetbooks at this point.
As soon as it does install I will provide links to both a zip and tar formas.

There is lots of help on the net about dealing with this problem. Most of the "exe" files are self-extracting archives (a combination of the zip archive and a small unzipper). They can be easily extracted in f the Mac OS and most other OSes for that matter. For example, try this link:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041227030618317
or do a Google search with "extract exe files on Mac"
Perhaps not for the faintest at heart but then why would you have an e-reader?

Bill,
I converted the latest update for the jetbook v0.34b from exe to a zip file and it is in the process of uploading to the ftp site.
You should be able to get it from there later today
