Jerry,
Its an ADE epub file got from South Ayrshire council library, using the ".ascm" key. I borrowed two different books from the library and currently can't get either one to work and I completed the .35d firmware upgrade.
The epub file does appear in the index list, it just doesn't open....
Thanks for any help you can give
Karen

Hey Karen,
Thanks for the question. I was told the newest release 0.35d does not support password protected versions of ePub. However we are testing versions right now that do we even have one released on our beta testing thread on the forums. https://www.ectaco.com/ectaco-posts/list/19996.page
If you are tech savvy you can try to download this 0.35g version [read all warnings before you do as it is in the testing phase]. If you want to wait the official release should be a few days a way i believe.
Hope this helps!

The support chaps told me to go to release .35a as that definately supports ADE epub files.
I have now done that, and I now have a different error "Failed to Open File", so I guess that is progress from a blank screen....
I can also confirm that when I read the book on my PC and check the item info in Adobe Digital Editions, the books in question do have the permissions "can be read on any device until 28 July 2010"
I guess I will keep trying, I might as well try the g (beta) version, I have tried everything else and I remain an insommniac until I get something to read again at night lol
Cheers
Karen

Does the book you're trying to read on the JB still have the .acsm extension or does it have an epub or pdf extension? If it is still *.acsm then you need to open it with ADE and it will download the book from your library and store it in a *.epub or *.pdf format. That is the format the JB should read. If you're trying to load a book with an acsm extension into the JB, I don't think that will work.

Hey Karen,
The older versions, starting with 0.35a i think, can play ADE ePub but not ones that are protected with the DRM lock (digital rights Management).
I believe 0.35e (and later) can play these DRM'ed eBooks but i have not tested it myself. We should have an official release for this soon.

The .acsm file is only a download ticket that tells Adobe Digital Editions that you can download that file from the server. Once you download the .acsm file then you need to download Adobe Digital Editions, install and register it to that computer. Open the .acsm file in Adobe Digital Editions and it will download the actual book to your computer. Once the book opens in ADE look on your computer, in your my documents folder for a folder called "My Digital Editions", in this folder you will find the ePub file of the book. I do not know if you can transfer the ePub file to your JBL and have it open. Good luck.

Has anyone successfully used a DRM protected epub file on their jB-L?
Borders tells me that their books will open on my jB-L but I simply get a blank screen. If I try to use Calibre to change the file to a mobi, I am informed that the epub file is DRM protected and that Calibre cannot reformat.

Hey,
DRM protected ePubs will not work on the JBL yet. I am told this update is on its way in another 2 weeks or so but i do not have an official release date yet.
jetBook regular can play ePub DRM books in its newest beta version seen here.
Hope this helps!

It would appear that, if we can get Adobe Digital Editions to recognize our ereaders (whether jetbook or lite) we can put epub files onto them under ADEs "Bookshelves".
Has someone looked into this?

I notice that there is new firmware (16) for the jB-L but it is an executable file instead of the old zip file. How to use it?

Hey,
To use the .exe file just double click on it. Most PC's will ask you "do you want to run this program?" Click "yes" or "run". Then you should see a screen to extract the files on the program. Extract the files to a known location (desktop is fine). Then you can move these files to your SD card and proceed with the firmware update procedure.
Hope this helps!

Hey,
No not yet, from what i'm told that is another 2 weeks away or so. I have no official notice of the release date, this was just an approximation by a manager.
Hope this helps!
