Repeating always to load a firmware into a locked device, ignoring the fact that's not possible, let me think they have never observed a locked device and so I doubt even more that the new firmware fixes this issue.

Still waiting on tech support to tell me how to load the new firmware on my reader without sending reader to them as they told me I would be able to do.
Or are you still saying the firmware you sent me the link to is not a "good" version? Ie are you STILL trying to stall?

Phil assured me the new firmware fixes the issue, but I had to ship it back

Highroller- try this, it worked for me. Shut off your computer and hook up the USB. THEN boot Windows. This mounts the USB out of the bios before Windows starts up (no Windows to tell you it is an invalid device). With mine, after Windows started loading up it found lost file chains on the ereader, did an auto chkdisk with repair, then continued to load windows. I was then able to disconnect and reset the Jetbook and load new firmware.

I appreciate you trying to help but what happens when I try this is the bios seems to do nothing. As soon as I hook up the usb cable even with the pc powered down, the jbl tries to start up. Its powered through the usb cable ie it does it even with batteries removed from jbl. It hangs on the logo screen like its been doing for months. Then when the pc starts up, the device apparently is not mounted by bios OR windows. Either my bios is different or this jbl is just a total lemon. (like the first one I had).

At this point I have pretty much written off the jbl as totally worthless. What real assurance do I have that sending it back again won't result in a 3rd device that fails in a week or 2? I have had the story changed by tech support wayyyy too many times to have ANY confidence in Ectaco. Those of you that the jbl has been reliable for, count your blessings.

Hello ~ I have been following this thread for a while (first time posting..)
I have been hoping to see a real solution to this problem. My JBL has frozen several times, and has somehow recovered each time..... But, it has frozen once again, and has remained dead for about a week.
I have tried to install the new firmware, but I cannot get past the main "Jetbook-Lite" page. So I guess I am in the same boat with many of you.. is the only other solution to return this device?
I've also noticed, when I turn it on, the light will blink once, go off, and come back on and reman steady. If I leave it on, the light will eventually shut off, but the screen is the same. Pushing reset causes lines to go across the reader? Anyone else notice this, and does it have anything to do with being locked up?

Well I was told the new jbl firmware would fix the problem without returning the device. Then they were unable to tell me HOW to load the new firmware. They haven't admitted they were wrong about not returning it but returning it seems to be my only option. Already sent it back 1 time for EXACTLY same thing. My concern is if sending it back again will finally really fix the problem or not? Seashelly your symptoms sound exactly like mine when trying to start it up.

FWIW I sent the device back and paid also for shipping it again to me. I should receive it next week. I'll let you know if it's really fixed (but it could take awhile).

Unfortunately, we haven't released yet any version newer then 0.15d.
The best way to get Your device fixed is to send it to ECTACO.
if You can't do that by some reasons, You will have to wait for the next updates.

I have since tried this on another desktop PC and a laptop. None of them mounted the device from the bios and fixed the problem with the jetbook lite. Tech Support STILL hasn't made good on their promise of the firmware fixing problem without return of device.

Ectaco INC,
IF the problem is hanging on logo screen then I fail to see how ANY firmware update will fix it. Since you STILL haven't given any way to load firmware in this case. I HOPE that the firmware will actually prevent re-occurance once its put on the device at Ectaco but that remains to be seen.
