Speaking translated text
|
|
|
I have had success using the text translation to German and French on the NTL-9C. I especially like being able to have it speak the translated sentence using the synthesized voice. When I try to do this with Chinese, the speaker symbol is greyed out, so I gather it is not possible to get translated text to be spoken for me when using Chinese. Is this a limitation of the current implementation that might be enhanced in the future? Or am I missing something that would allow this to work. Once I have translated in both directions, I am fairly confident that the translation is OK, so I am just looking to get the speech synthesis to work for Chinese (and Japanese too).
Thanks!
Brion

Alex, the product is NTL-2J with the 2GB SD card NTL-9C. When I first inserted the NTL-9C SD card, there was no text translation available. Only after I reset the device does the text translation appear. Is this normal? After swapping SD cards I can change languages via the Settings, but the text translation is not listed for iTranslate. I now see that there is no text translation provided with the Japanese language, which is too bad for me.
Anyway, when using the text translation with French or German, I can select to have the translated text phrase spoken using the speech synthesis. With text translated to Chinese, the speaker icon stays greyed out so you cannot speak the translated text. I was hoping it would be possible to use the speech synthesis to say the translated phrase in Chinese since it will be a while before I can recognize the symbols. It seems so close to being able to do that.

Dear Brion,
The NTL-2CH doesn't speak Chinese inside the text-translation tool.
Text translation tool does not available for the NTL-2J. It's avaialble for the NTL-9c.
You may review descriptions on the web-site.
