Hundreds of thousands of English words always at hand Lingvosoft Dictionary 2008

Almost everybody faces now and then the need to communicate in a foreign language. While some people count such situations on the fingers of one hand, for others it is daily bread. This application is suitable especially for the latter. Nevertheless, the necessary condition is to possess a pocket-sized computer with OS Windows Mobile.
Life brings countless situations when a Czech–English dictionary is extremely useful.
Yet not everybody drags along a thick tome containing at least ten thousand words. However, you would hardly find an owner of a pocket-sized computer with mobile Windows without his pocket companion. If you have a Pocket PC you may also dispose of a dictionary with tens of thousands words. However, this is true only if you have installed the new LingvoSoft Dictionary. There are obviously other dictionaries for Windows Mobile, but the new version of LingvoSoft Dictionary has just come out and therefore we would like to share our experience of using it.
The installation of the dictionary on your Pocket PC requires almost 7 MB of disk space (including the Czech software keyboard). After the installation is complete you need to reboot the computer and then you can hurl yourself into studying English words.
The screen consists of two main windows and a panel for entering words. The toolbar at the bottom of the screen is for entering basic instructions (rotate, copy – insert, read).
You can enter the words in any way the editor offers. The advantage is that while entering single letters the words are filtered automatically, which is not the rule in such programs.
There is of course a phonetic form given for every word; the translation appears in the lower window. A capital letter next to the translation stands for the word class of the selected term (V-verbs, N-nouns etc.). If the selected word occurs in any of the phrases, the program will offer it (however, it is necessary to buy Phrasebook which is licensed separately).
The mere text translation is provided even by an ordinary paper dictionary; however, what a paper dictionary cannot do is to read the translation aloud. To listen to the correct pronunciation of a word that seems difficult to pronounce is very useful and one can often avoid the social faux-pas. There is a lot more this application offers, although reading the translation belongs among its best features. Another interesting function is for example the search of a synonym for the particular word. It is possible to insert new words with a corresponding comment into the user dictionary, which is one of the most important innovations compared to the older version.
Another feature not missing in setting options is the choice of font and its size. The look of the application can be customized as well – the choice is from three color themes. Furthermore it is possible to change the position of main panels and language (unfortunately, the Czech language is missing).

ECTACO Releases the New SpeechGuard 5 Series – The Ultimate Speech-to-Speech Handheld
The only hands free/eye free 2-way communication system and open development platform for law enforcement and military is now available.

The SpeechGuard 5 series has Cultural Awareness Notes, Audio Phrasebooks and text translation for multiple languages, audio player for mp3 files, calendar planner, voice recorder, and the capability to connect to external amplification devices like PA systems, or loudspeakers. Jetsons Gizmos from the Consumer Electronics Show
Strolling down the Champs-Élysées in a pleasant post-croissant haze, you're suddenly gripped with a strong urge to meet the Mona Lisa face-to-face. You could use your Ectaco iTRAVL TL-6 talking translator to hear the proper phrase for asking directions to the Louvre, but you decide to bring up a map of Paris on its color touch screen and navigate the old-fashioned way.
Later, in front of your date, the TL-6 will prove handy again. This time you launch its media player and listen to a history of the creation of da Vinci's masterpiece. With your Comply NR-10 noise-canceling earphones snugly plugged in, drowning out the surrounding babble, it's just you and the world's most mysterious smile.
Ectaco's robust traveler device and Comply's super-silencing earphones are just two of the exceptionally nifty travel gadgets we found at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In the past 40 years, the show has introduced the public to the first VCR, the compact disc player, high-definition television, digital video recorders and satellite radio, just to name a few. This year it gave birth to the Gorillapod (more on that later).
Even as show atendees stumble glassy-eyed among 140,000 other visitors trying to see their share of the 1.8 million square feet of exhibits, they nevertheless manage to hunt down all sorts of smart devices. Some were ingenious twists on common items -- the Sleeptracker, a watch that wakes you up when you're in a light sleep stage; or the HydraBrush, an electric toothbrush that brushes two sets of teeth at once. Others focused on making the mobile audio/visual experience more personally enriching, like the Headplay, which wraps around your eyes like a sleeping mask and simulates a big-screen movie-watching experience.
If there was a general theme among the most notable travel gizmos, it was autonomy. One example: the Gorillapod. With its versatile ability to perch atop or latch onto things like handrails, this camera attachment allows you to set up your self-portrait and avoid any awkward exchanges with passersby. Another freedom-inducing device was the Universal Power Bank. By charging it in any of 120+ countries to provide mobile power to all your devices, it guarantees no more dead time. Ceiva's digital photo frame was one more example: with its ability to connect to directly to the Web and instantly upload camera-phone shots from around the world, it skips the CPU middle man.
Most of our top 10 travel gadgets debuted just days ago. A couple of them won awards, like the Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard, which earned the highly coveted Best of Innovations honor, and every one of them is a marvelous mix of intelligent form and utilitarian function. In fact, all ten could fit neatly in a carry-on duffel bag. But since the items in that duffel represent more than $2,500 worth of high-tech wizardry to keep you understood, productive and entertained, it's one bag you probably won't want to check.
